NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry
Finally got through to financial aid and they said it would take about a week and a half to two weeks to get the decision once our admission offer was made. I find a couple of things about this very surprising: 1) Why does the admissions letter say "If you applied for financial aid and you qualify, your financial aid award will be available within the next three business days via your NYUHome account and Albert" and then 2) Give you only 3 weeks to accept when you will only be aware of your financial aid decision for the last week of that time... I can't imagine I'm the only person who needs financial aid to justify the high cost of NYU...

If anyone calls- do you reach out to the admissions office or financial aid?

They must be able to give you financial aid info before you accept. I for one cannot accept the offer without knowing what aid is available... Maybe they send it later if you accept the offer immediately? I'll call this afternoon. Thanks for the info!

For those of you who have been admitted- The acceptance email indicated that our financial aid package would be updated within 3 days, but seeing as they don't seem to stick to their own deadlines, I was curious how long it actually took to see your financial aid results?

They didn't call me- I called them to verify that I should continue with sending updated transcripts. I called at about 1:30pm, and my admissions counselor told me to submit whatever unofficial transcripts I may have to try to get the ball rolling before the official ones arrived. She didn't give me a deadline, but I had the new information to her by around 2:30pm

NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry
Hi Everyone! I got an acceptance email this morning and could not be more relieved, but I'm also trying not to get too excited because I really need to wait on the financial aid component before I get in. I may be totally wrong here, but I have a feeling I received my notice today was because I called yesterday to check on everything and to see if it was worth it for me to send in transcripts for the classes I have just finished (A&PI and Dev.Psych). I still had 4 pre-reqs to go when I applied so I wanted to see if that could have been the reason for the hold up. I was able to speak to my admissions counselor who seemed excited that I had finished a few of the classes I still needed and asked if I would send her something unofficial while I wait for the official transcripts so that she could try to expedite my decision. She mentioned that sometimes, when applicants have that many prereqs to go, they like to see how some of the grades pan out if possible. She also said that just because people had not heard, that did not mean there was only bad news left. She said that they recieved over 1000 applications this year and with the nursing program being what it is, they take time to go through each application to look at "the full picture" and of course that takes time. So for everyone still waiting, I completely understand your frustration but try not to get disheartened!! As far as my credentials go: I graduated from Tulane in 2011 with a 3.5 GPA- majored in Art History, minored in Molecular Cell Biology (there is virtually no overlap between pre-med requirements, and nursing pre-reqs unfortunately, so I had 4 left). I have a 3.9 in my pre-reqs (got A's in both classes I just completed- which may have helped). I was hesitant about med school when i graduated and so I went to work for a non-profit in NYC to take time to fully consider my options. I focused on that in my essay. My recommendations were pretty strong- one from a family friend who has known me my whole life and who is a physician, and one from a co-worker at my current job, and I spent 2 years in college volunteering in an ER in a non-profit hospital in New Orleans- that made up the bulk of my essay because I talked about the differences in the type of care I witnessed between doctors and nurses. I know how frustrating the wait is- believe me (you guys probably saw my annoying rants for which I'm sorry!!) But if there was one thing I could take away from my conversation yesterday and subsequent email today it's that you should not give up hope at all just because you haven't heard. If you get the urge, call admissions, see if there is anything more you can do- you never know what could come of it! Good luck everyone!!

I applied for the early deadline too... I probably wouldn't have if I had known the application would be scrutinized even more than those who applied on April 1st...

I wonder what percentage of people who applied are still waiting for a decision either way- based on this forum, it seems like it could be a decent amount...

Nothing for me either... This waiting game is so tough. It's hard to make plans for what comes next if we have to wait so long to hear back from NYU. If I don't get in, I've got things to reconsider about my current job, and I likely won't take Microbiology over the summer as I had originally planned, since there will be no need to rush fulfilling that final requirement, but I have to sign up for it anyway since the admissions decisions are taking so long, and classes will start before June 1st... I've reached a point where I'm starting to see NYU in a very negative light, which is calling into question whether or not I would even want to go there- cost is so extremely high, they seem to be extremely disorganized with regard to admissions, financial aid, and information after you've accepted their offer... Maybe it's just me trying to help myself justify if I don't get in, but this whole process is extremely disheartening.

mine? 3.4 Undergrad, 4.0 pre-reqs so far- finishing up Anatomy I and Developmental Psych now and then Nutrition and Microbiology over the summer. I volunteered in an ER in New Orleans for a full year, and I now work at a non-profit in NYC. I focused on how those two experiences shaped my decision to go back to nursing school in my Personal Statement. Applied Feb 25th, still haven't heard back.

It seems like there is very little rhyme or reason to how they have choosen to go about notifying any of us about admissions decisions, or who they even accept for that matter. It's frustrating to be on the waiting side of things, but I guess there is really nothing that can be done about that...
