  1. Hi Nomadrn2013, how do you like MTSU's FNP program so far? Glad you started. You are one semester closer to finishing =)
  2. A preceptor recommended these books for those struggling with writing Soaps. I'm passing them along so they can help you during clinicals. "Core Concepts for USMLE STEP 2 CS: A focused and goal-oriented approach" by Umesh Sharma. "USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills Triage: A Guide to Honing Clinical Skills" by Kevin Schwechten. "Kaplan Medical USMLE Step 2 CS: Complex Cases: 35 Cases You Are Likely to See on the Exam" by Phillip Brottman, Kaplan, & Sonia Reichert. "Case-Based Simulation and Review For USMLE Step 2 CS" by Theodore X. O'Connell & Timothy J. Horita.
  3. Clinicals are a lot of work. You juggle going to clinicals and getting evaluated by a preceptor, and then you come home to do weekly homework, exams, projects, extensive papers, and long SOAP notes. Some nights, I'm work on homework until I have to leave for clinicals. Its all worth it in the end.
  4. The "made easy" or "made simple" series helped me for chemistry, biology, statistics, and math. Since I took the courses online, I had to teach myself these subjects. These books helped me with that. "Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self-Teaching Guide" by Houk & Post "Homework Helpers: Chemistry" by Curran "Chemistry for Dummies" by Moore
  5. The RODP (Regents Online Distance Program) NP program is offered through the 6 TN universities (APSU, ETSU, MTSU, TSU, TTU, UM). I'm unsure if out-of-state students can apply. Does anyone know?
  6. Lots (and lots and lots) of papers. Definitely Proctored tests. A lot of learning things on your own. That's why those books were posted to help others.
  7. This helped with my SOAP notes for those of you struggling with them: Kaplan Medical USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (any edition. bought the 2nd edition for $0.25 from Amazon. ISBN-13: 9780743273459)
  8. This helped me a lot with the SOAP notes: First Aid for USMLE Step 2 CS (Clinical Skills) (any edition. I bought the 2nd edition for $0.75 off Amazon. ISBN-13: 9780071470582)
  9. I learned everything the hardest way possible. I hope these resources help others who are coming into the program. These helped me with my SOAP notes: SOAP for Family Medicine by Maldonado SOAP for Emergency Medicine by Bond SOAP for Pediatrics by Polisky SOAP for Obstetrics and Gynecology by Uzelac Differential Diagnosis Pocket: Clinical Reference Guide by Sailer and Wasner
  10. I know this was posted a while back. Hopefully, this can help other students. These books helped me through clinical portions of the program: Common Symptom Guide by Wasson Merck Manual of Patient Symptoms: A Concise, Practical Guide to Etiology, Evaluation, and Treatment by Porter In A Page Signs and Symptoms by Kahan In A Page Ambulatory Medicine by Kahan In A Page Pediatric Signs & Symptoms by Teitelbaum Family Nurse Practitioner Review and Resource Manual (3rd Ed) by ANCC
