  1. Hi, I got accepted into a competitive ADN program for the fall (so happy and excited!). I keep reading everywhere that acquiring critical thinking skills is an absolute must in order to be successful in nursing school. I feel that I'm not that great at it, and it's starting make me a little nervous as fall semester draws nearer and nearer. I was hoping that all of you had some suggestions of books that had NCLEX type questions and critical thinking exercises that would help me during school to prepare me for tests and, eventually, the NCLEX exam. And, maybe, it would be a book that that I could kinda start reading now like a couple times a week just to feel a little less nervous. Thanks!
  2. I talked to the nursing adviser last fall and she said that for fall 2012, they ended up accepting their whole standby list plus 2 people that they rejected. So I think you still have great chances! Good luck :)
  3. I was shooting for a 90 on the TEAS as well but got an 85, which is still an awesome score. I waited till about 5 weeks before my test to start studying. I did one section from the TEAS book a week. And then the week of my test, I did the practice tests and worked on my weakest points. I found the test to be pretty similar to the practice tests... but with a little more of the tricky questions on it. If you study for a whole month before, you'll do perfectly fine :) oh and just a tip for taking it at Loma Linda... leave extra early if you live kinda far because of traffic AND it was a horrific experience trying to find a parking spot. Oh and make sure you pay in cash on the day of your test.
  4. I had 75pts. I thought for sure I was going to get standby...but I didn't. So either I got in on the lottery or the people I applied with had similar amount of points. It all depends on the pool of applicants that you are applying with. If you have 80 pts and above, I wouldn't even worry... you'll get in lol. If you have 75 like me, then it's a toss up. It could go either way for you. No matter what...don't give up hope if you don't get in on your first try. You can always reapply. Have you taken your TEAS yet?
  5. Just received my acceptance letter too!! I'm so relieved and excited!! yayayayyaay
  6. ...is it bad that I didn't get an invite? I already took mine and they should have my score. Should I not be getting any kind of emal from them until my acceptance or rejection letter? This waiting sure does stink lol. Maybe I should call Monday... Ugh I'm going crazy lol I just want to knowwww
  7. Thanks for the replies :) I'm completely done with school and I've already taken my TEAS. The relaxing was fun for the first month, but I feel like my brain is turning to mush lol. Good advice to get started on the immunizations and all that. The only reason why I want to study clinical situations and things like that was because I had a hard time with them in my micro class. I wanted to get a head start on them before nursing school since I already know I'm not too strong in that area. I guess it won't hurt lol
  8. I'm hoping some nurses or nursing students can help me. I've already applied to nursing school for the fall and I'm currently playing the "waiting game". It's driving me nuts just going to work every day and no school. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of things I could do while I'm waiting to hear back that would help nursing school go a little more smoothly for me... I was thinking of ordering some disease flashcards from amazon and really get down the diseases (S&S, treatment, virulence factors, etc.). And, I was going to order a book to practice clinicals (Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple). Will I be wasting my time and money on these things or is it a good investment?
  9. Hey everyone! I also submitted my application for Fall 2013... I'm so nervous... I thought the "waiting game" wasn't going to be so bad, but geez! March is barely almost over and we still have practically 3 more months to wait! I believe I have 75 pts...I got an 85% on my TEAS though. I have a friend who applied for fall 2012 and had 70 or 75 pts (I can't remember) and got in as a standby the week before the semester started...so I guess there is always hope :) I don't know what I'll do if I wait till the end of June and find out I'm on standby and have to wait another two months to know my fate... I think I'll lock myself in a padded room if that happens XD I hope more people get on here bc I feel so alone in my agony lol are there any more worry-warts out there?? Good luck to you all :)
