  1. Hi Guys, I'm an irish trained nurse with a new york state license. I have been applying for jobs in new york since i received my nclex results last june. I got an email from Horizon Healthcare Staffing to ask if i needed sponsorship or can i just work in the USA. I replied to her that yes, I needed sponsorship and she said she'd put me in touch with people who deal with that. The name of "those people" are call One Call Staffing. I was contacted by a lady there and eventually managed to have a phone conversation after some emailing back and forth as I needed to be working before they could arrange to place me in NYS. After a very short conversation she told me that Horizon were interested in me and are willing to sponsor me which would take approximately 18months. Of course being very excited I was in a freeze and didn't ask any questions. She is emailing me on all of the documentation etc required for the process. I guess my question is, after hearing so much about people being scammed desperately trying to work in the USA, can I trust them? Does it all sound legit for anyone else who's been in this situation? And why me out of all the applications that are received for jobs!? Ive nearly 3 years experience 2 in renal specifically but I'm not classed as having a speciality. I'm a registered nurse with a bachelor of science and 3 different licenses for 3 different countries. Any help on this would be really, really appreciated! Thanks! :)
  2. hey guys, As an irish trained nurse looking to do the nclex over there in new york i wanted to further my education as well through the form of taking up a dialysis course. i am currently enrolled for the dialysis technician course in the manhattan institute due to start in january. Has anyone had experience in doing this course? im currently working in irelands main renal department but i dont do haemo. I've had experience with peritoneal dialysis though. I would love if anyone could shed some light on this course! thanks guys :)
  3. just wondering if you got sorted? im currently in the process of applyong for my nyc licensure (i live in ireland) and i was told that going agency would be better while i was waiting for it to come through! if you did find out any id love to hear! :)
  4. thank you yes every little bit of info helps! im going to ring the board of nursing when i get a chance! thanks a mill :)
  5. naah sleepy, you dont stand a chance if ever short handed documentation goes to court for any reason, id just prefer to not be in that position. i make sure all my students write properly with no short hand! it'l stand to them if ever they need it! :)
  6. c/o has many interpretations which is why its sometimes unclear. i hate short hand!! it can mean complained of, continues on, commenced on.. documentation has gone so downhill, sometimes nearly as illegible as doctors writing with all the short hand, and thats bad!
  7. no ideas on the amount of hours required for each field?
  8. oh i kinda guessed they would take time with the amount of applicants , so im better off just ringing them am i? because obviously i cant do much unless i apply to them+if the dont reply im stuck! maybe they wont because theres a hold on applying or something.. anyway il be annoying and just ring! :) thanks for the link too!
  9. oh my dear god you'd knowbif you had the nirovirus or not! i got it and it was absolutely horrible... HORRIBLE! so bad i ended up being hospitalised for 3days with severe dehydration, oh il never forget it! wasnt for a few weeks later when the hospital rang and told me my resilts cane bk norovirus positive! tgank god i havent got it since! it was my preceptor thst gave it to me,before she fecked off home and left me on my own as a 2nd year student in a+e!!
  10. does any of you guys know the specific requirements? i emailed the nursing board again for the 2nd time to enquire about the process in general.. but what i need to know is the minimum requirement of hours from each field maternity, paeds and psych! they wouldve been specialised placements for me.. for example i wouldve omly done 32hrs of maternity plus then lectures! :/
  11. cool thanks a mill for that! are there any hospitals in particular i should pay more attention to or hospitals that i should stay away from!? theres such mixed views on this forum about no chances of getting a job and others say theres always a chance to get one! im guna try anyway i can, if its meant to be itl be!! :)
  12. what are the number of hours required for each field e.g maternity paeds and psych?
  13. hey guys! just wondering if there are any new grad programmes that accept newly qualified nurses trained outside of US? iv my 9months pre reg work placement done and started a job in renal in september 2012. I went on to graduate in november 12. any links or advice be mich appreciated! im still eligable for a 1year work visa or the j1 as im not a year over graduating .. so hopefully in that time i may b able to get set up! if not, at least il have tried!! :)
  14. its the same in ireland! although they could really do with employing more nurses! with more pay rather than cutting it further!
  15. ha, god it does sound very bleak alright. No one else in my class ( theres less than 50 of us) have attempted america , everyone seems to b heading towards australia or canada. do hospitals take direct cvs? its obvious theres no chance of sending on your cv in the hope of getting a job but im just wondering? i heard that if you apply to a lower demanding state that the process is quicker, is this true? so All in all, is it obtaining a work visa or getting the nursing job that causes the most problems?
