Hi everyone, I graduated my nursing program (RPN/LPN) in June 2012, spent part of the summer volunteering (nursing in Tanzania), started a BScN program in September, landed my first job in October (Paediatric Home Care), and am now faced with the crappy reality of not enough hours to pay my bills. In addition to this, I'm really craving more of a challenge, and hope to get into a hospital in a more acute and diverse setting. My main issues is that my resume is just TOO LONG. I do not have enough nursing experience to omit my non-nursing experience, but with both nursing and non-nursing, I just have way too much going on in there... Ya know? So, I will attach my resume as is (too long and such) and hopefully can get some advice about: 1. prioritizing the content 2. reducing the content 3. how to state my "objective" - this one always gets me! *I'm not sure how to attach a document so I will copy/paste my resume in this post... Can someone tell me how to attach and I will gladly do so! Until then, please note that the formatting on my real resume is much different. Thanks a million Sam Objective To obtain a position as a Registered Practical Nurse where my clinical and interpersonal skills and abilities will enable me to provide exceptional care for patients and families Highlights of Qualifications - Accountable to self and others with a regard for professionalism, respect, and courtesy - Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem solving skills - Exceptional communication skills with a passion for teaching and educating - Able to function independently and in collaboration with other members of the health care team Clinical Skills - Complete patient assessments - Reading, understanding, and clarifying physician's orders - Documenting to the CNO standards using both paper and computerized charting - Medication administration including intravenous and subcutaneous infusions - Initiating and monitoring blood product transfusions - Simple and complex wound care and management of decubitus ulcers - Oxygen therapy, suctioning, and tracheostomy care - Nasogastric tube management including insertion, feedings, and suctioning - Feedings and medication administration through g-tubes and j-tubes - Insertion and care of lymphedema drains - Colostomy care - Male and female catheterization as well as care of nephrostomies and ileal conduits Work experience Partners in Community Nursing Durham Region, ON Oct 2012 - Present Registered Practical Nurse, Paediatric Program - Providing care for paediatric clients within the home setting - Supporting clients and families through difficult transitions - Administering medications and treatments in accordance with physicians orders - Documenting in accordance with CNO standards - Attending educational in-services ParaMed Home Health Care Durham Region, ON Jun 2011 - Oct 2012 Personal Support Worker - Providing personal care for adult and older adult clients in the community setting - Advocating for clients and promoting independence through education and support - Practicing within the scope of a PSW and receiving delegated tasks from RN/RPNs - Supporting clients and families through difficult transitions Private Clients Whitby, ON Jan - Jun 2011 Personal Support Worker - Providing home management and assistance hygiene, grooming and meals - Performing intermittent female catheterization - Administering medication Alliance Youth Services Inc.
