And yes normally here is 24 hrs and mandatory whatever they send. But I'm more confused for the fact that I have less than a year w my license and have to renew like everyone else that's had theirs the normal period of time. Which is 2 years if I'm not mistaken.

okay, so Hi everyone! Main point, please don't bash me for waiting this long to do my CEUs, besides being an LPN I'm also a full time procrastinator. but this is the first year I'll have to renew. I have a question and it might be so stupid for everyone else but this is the first time I do this so please just bare with me. I just got my license Aug 2014 as an LPN Now, renewal is upon us with license expiring July 31st 2015. I have signed up for an online CEU program and signed up for my CEbroker transcripts blah blah blah. CEbroker is telling me I only have to do 5 hrs to renewal. Unless I'm going crazy and its something else. So medical errors, HIV, FL laws, and domestic violence. I thought it was supposed to be 24 HRS to renew plus the 80$ fee. Am I missing something here or am I just supposed to do 5 hrs to renewal for my 11months of licensure? I don't want to be out of compliance with my license as I'll be working with the gov soon. And that's obviously unacceptable. PLEAAAASE PLEASE someone help me figure this out. I greatly appreciate all the help in advance.
  4. I know this thread is old but I was hoping someone might still see it and help me? I applied for a position on Sept. 5th Got through the phone interview and then the face to face about a week apart. Was asked about hourly wage I was looking for and if I was okay with coming back in to meet the surgeons. My application was under initial review till Friday when it was updated And not it says COMPLETE what the heck does that mean?! Did I get it..??

So what am i supposed to live on... air an saliva till I find a job god knows when? on top of that there are general expenses, phone bill to get contacted by employers, internet to apply for jobs, food to NOT DIE, utility payments i mean like i think it would be nice to have electricity and not live like im in a thirdworld country. I'm just saying. No one would want to be unemployed to begin with but thank you for letting me know about the whole volunteering thing.

Thank you for your input and also taking the time to reply... luckily (no offense) im not going to be in the same situation you're in since we already own an apt in NYC and the rent isn't much concern at the given moment unless i just wanna spend money and find a new place. Regardless, what i'm mainly looking for is any way to be a bit ahead of the game but i guess that all makes sense :) Thank you again

Im so sorry about the super mega late reply... but i went to MedTech up in East Orlando pretty much across the road from UCF

And it's kind of hard to not get discouraged when this is reality. I guess I should probably start looking for another way to make a living till someone feels enough compassion to give my an opportunity. Even if it's two years from now. I just don't wanna have a wrong idea about what it really is outside cuz while I was in school they're always gushing about all the amazing jobs available out there yadi yada. But then again. I guess even instructors need a sales pitch.

    I'm assuming you're not a new nurse...

that's always good to hear...and I wouldn't exactly have the same issue as your sister since I already have the apt thing sorted out and itll be a hack of a lot cheaper than 12 hundred... my main concern is the job situation... so i guess i might as well ask u the same thing.. is there anything i can do now for at least 6 months to gain "experience"? it'll at least get me halfway past someone with zero experience..
  12. Masiel replied to Masiel's topic in LPN, LVN Corner
you've officially scared the shiznits out of me... and apparently it's not even something that's only in NYC... its EVERYWHERE so now I'm wondering where's this great big shortage on nurses..when no ones taking the ones that there are... is there anyway i could volunteer or SOMETHING to get experience for at least 6 months before I leave that can be used as experience?? something that'll at least give me some kind of advantage over the thousands of applicants :|
  13. So, I'm waiting on the results of my NCLEX exam to come in. I'm praying to god it all went well.. i'm not sure how to feel about it honestly. Anyhow I completed my LPN program in Orlando, Florida and am moving to NYC by myself within the next two months. So I only have ME MYSELF AND I to support me in that crazy city.... Can i start applying for jobs already even though i still haven't gotten my NCLEX results back? And for those living up north, what is the hourly pay rate for a new grad LPN? All the experience I've had has been during my clinical rotations and stuff. Does that count as legitimate experience??? Also... can someone tell me different areas I could potentially work at other than nursing homes?? P.S. I went on INDEED.COM to see what the aver. annual salary for an entry level LPN is in NYC and it said $56,000.... that's still about $3 grand a month (AFTER NY TAXES whicha re ridiculously high...) Is this even close to accurate?
  14. Thank you so much for your input. Everything you guys said helped a lot! and i figured as much lol. I did ask my professor for a couple of more pointers but she said the same exact thing u just said too. I really appreciate it, hopefully with time i'll get better at all this critical thinking business
  15. lol never that but this was the last part of my project, so thank you for the input. I'm done with it now so lets see if i get another 100 :).
