Help this School Nurse!
I currently work at a charter school in Ohio. The job is okay. Not stressful, I,m my own boss, great hours, however the pay is absolutely horrible and with high benefits to pay also. I really wanted this to work. Now I have been offered a job with wonderful pay and excellent benefits at a Drug Rehab facility which I have been working per diem for the last year. I enjoy the school job better, but this job not horrible. After a lot of thought, I cannot decline this position. Heres my problem. All charter school employees sign a contract stating I would have to pay the school 3000$, Yes 3000$ if I leave before school year ends. Has anyone encountered this, is this truly legal!? I maybe can understand teachers leaving beginning of year and causing havoc, but 150 applicants applied for my position when first hired, so it would not take very long to fill this position. Everyone has same contract. I appreciate any advice or help on this matter. Thank you

UNBELIEVABLE what goes on here
[ I have been a correctional nurse at OSP for over one yr. Here's the facts. I have been a seasoned RN for over 30 yrs. Well seasoned and experienced. I have earned the inmates respect over this period. T I am fair, firm, consistent. Inmates also know I follow thru on my promises. If I say I will check on something for them, I will. This is what I have encountered. Absolute laziness from majority of correctional officers. Now, let's get to the point of this. In over 30 yrs. of nursing I have never EVER EVER encountered such poor nursing care given by nurses. Most incompetent, important mistakes hidden by management! They is absolutely no teamwork. Doesn,t exist. Charting is a joke. When nurses asked to do something, often the reply is ,"NO". I have never known "NO" was an option when requested by superiors, or that nurse just doesn,t want to do that assignment. General attitude is "who cares". WOW total insanity! The work is not hard. And yet the viciousness of the RN,s is on a level I have never experienced. Most of these RN,s never worked anywhere else. Believe me, they would not be able to work anywhere else with their attitude and incompetence. How sad for the few that try to make a difference. Yes, I am looking to get out. The job market not great in this area. How sad the direction nursing has taken. Thanks for letting me vent!

57 and need to start over YET AGAIN!
Bailey246 After 60 resumes ( okay, maybe 50)(not kidding), I finally received an interview in a LTF. Its like a whole new world. But it is what it is. The interviewer was like myself, from old school. I am surprised that LTF do not pay anything great. She replied, if I had more experience in Long term care, she could give me more per hr. I guess all that experience ( 30+) counts for nothing in the scheme of things. She said she would contact me tomorrow,. At least its what I'm making now. Benefits are there, but not sure what cost will be for me. I wish EVERYONE of my fellow nurses luck in pursuing a nursing career at our ages. How disheartening this all is!!! Thank you all for your input!

57 and need to start over YET AGAIN!
I need some help. I just joined the site. I am working as a radiology nurse in small imaging facility. Its been a great job. Unfortunately we are shutting our doors 12/2013. I am worried sick. I live in a small area. I'd rather not go back into hospital. I just feel nursing is over as I knew it in a hospital setting. I can't even get a call for a nursing home. I truly think my age is working against me. What can I do? The thought of starting over again makes me physically ill! I appreciate any help and all advice! Thank you everyone. I've been trying to check into insurance nursing but dead ends everywhere.
