9/1 Prelicensure B.S.N Florida Cohort
Hey there! If the clinical sites haven't changed, the Daytona Beach FL cohort uses Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center for the majority of clinical rotations and labs. This facility and staff were INCREDIBLY welcoming, professional, and provided an amazing learning environment. Best part of WGU is that you are placed with one nurse who you complete all of you hours with for each rotation, and you're ONE-on-ONE! We typically found out what days we were scheduled a few weeks before beginning the rotation. Best of luck! let me know if I can answer any other questions!

BSN Almost Done - But might not work as an "RN"
I do remember reading about parish nursing in nursing school but it wasn't real clear what that meant. However, it does seem to be the closest thing to what I would be doing

I'm sorry I haven't been on this site in a while, just now seeking these comments. I'm graduating in 3 weeks and would be happy to answer any questions you guys have about the program!

BSN Almost Done - But might not work as an "RN"
I am weeks away from graduating with my B.S.N. I completed a pre-licensure program and this is my first degree in nursing (I also have a bachelors in business administration). My general question is, do I HAVE to work as a 'nurse' in a typical patient-care setting in order to maintain and renew my license (I'm in Florida). I have worked full-time for a church as an administrative pastor for the past 3 years. Serving my church and community is a passion of mine, along with nursing. Three years ago, a PA in our church started a free medical clinic that is continuing to grow. While my original plan was to leave this position for a job in the hospital setting, I am now considering staying at the church and using my degree and license to work with and further develop the medical clinic, while continuing with my current responsibilities at the church. My job with the church will provide a better work-life balance, but less financial return. A job at the hospital will be more demanding on my family and church, but will provide significantly more financial support and health insurance and keep more of my nursing skills current. There are other options and combinations of options that I could consider, such as working part time in a local clinic/nursing home and work at the church. My question there would be, would a facility hire a new graduate nurse to work PRN or part-time? I welcome discussion and advice on making this decision, but my main question is: If I choose to stay at the church and work in an administrative role within the church and medical clinic, can I continue to hold and renew my nursing license. I know that I will need to complete the required CEUs, but do I have to be employed for a certain amount of time to continue renewing my license? Questions/Comments?

9/1 Prelicensure B.S.N Florida Cohort
Helano, I'm honestly not sure if there are still open seats or not. I would think that they've filled the seats, or they wouldn't be starting a cohort. I believe they pick 12 people altogether, including 2 alternates. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask though!

Only preparing I've done so far is the EWB orientation. Just finally finished it yesterday. I'm supposed to hear from my enrollment advisor tomorrow. What are the dates of the boot camp? That's cool about the move from ATL, I actually live about 45 minutes from the hospital.

9/1 Prelicensure B.S.N Florida Cohort
GUESS WHAT!!!! I just found out last night that I will be starting with the September 1st Cohort at Western Governors University in Daytona Beach FL! I can't wait to start, but am a little anxious as to what the classes will be like. I'm hoping to use this thread to connect with others of this class (I think there are only 10 of us all together) or others already in the program at this location. I have also read many threads full of questions asking what this program is like, with very few answers from current students/alumni. I plan to keep this thread updated on my experience and answer any questions that potential students may have. As the program is still quite small, it is hard to find an alum out there to talk with, especially one from a specific location. I want to be a resource for others to learn about the program as I am going through it. I know that WGU offers the pre-licensure BSN in a few different states, and I'm sure one's experience could vary greatly between different locations. Also, if you already attend WGU at any location and could offer any advice for someone just starting, like me, that would be GREAT APPRECIATED!
