Nursing student loans
Hi I am 52 and have just been accepted into an LPN program. I will be leaving my full time job as a home health aide to start school full time. My school does not accept the stafford loan and I did not have good credit. I qualified for pell grant which does cover almost all the school expenses and am applying for scholarships. Does any one know if I can get a subsidized or unsubsidized loan (government) to help supplement my income while in school? I am the sole source of support. Thanks

Fscj lpn summer 2013
Found out today why I was not accepted into the LPN program and it is because I live in Georgia (6 miles from the fl line). Even tho my scores were very high florida residents come first. I wish they had told me that right up front . *Sigh*

My score was 10.75 TABE was 12.9 12.9 11.2 =9.5 4.0 GPA=10.0 Wk Exp=1.0 And even though I am out of state it would not be out of state tuition. Since I am only 6 miles from the florida border it is a special rate. More than what a fl resident would pay but not as much as totally out of state. About 10,000. The application stated it was based on ranking score, not residency, not age, not race etc. Not only that the school was mailed a letter with my work experience prooving I had worked since 2005 in the state of florida. I am going to contact the school and find out for sure what happened. Its kinda upsetting because I have am guarenteed a job as a nurse with the same company I work for

yeah...i am confused too. The only thing I can think of is I wanted nights only so I can still work, plus I live in Georgia, plus I am kinda old so maybe that knocked me out of contention but that is so unfair. Some of us bloom later than others and I have worked in florida for 8 years and will remain working there I just live in Ga because its cheaper here. I just dont know this is kinda depressing, and if they made a mistake how are they gonna fix it? The only reason I applied to fscj is that i could get a govt student loan to help cover expenses. I have an awesome job(im a home health aide) now it pays good but I want to do more. I want to be a nurse. And Im guarenteed a job with the company Im at all I need is that license so so so frustrating

They sent me my score and also an application to reapply if I did not hear from them by the first week of school. I am thinking because i dont live in florida they put those who do in front of me but i will call her this week and seek clarification. I would think if i did get admitted that it would say congrats, orientation starts on such and such a date. I didnt get that. And i appreciate you reaching out ...and you need to try again also. Take some classes on the side that will help you get a better score :) I learned a lot from life experience being a cna and hha for 11 years teaches you more than any book or class room. Hang in there just your wanting to be a nurse shows your heart

In my letter I got an application to reapply. I didnt say i got accepted. My ranking score was 10.75TABE scores were 12.9 12.9 and 11.2 4.0 GPA in college. and extra point for work experience. The letter stated if i didnt hear from the school by the first week of class to reapply. And an application letter was enclosed in the packet

Yeah, that is what I will do. Also what I did is said that I would take evenings only and that narrowed my chances even more. I am not giving up I plan on reapplying to the college in GA and am just gonna have to find a way to take out a loan to cover my expenses while I am in school. (i'm a single mom and 52, decided to go back to school after the kids left the nest) I wanted to go to school in FL because I have been working in home health since 2005 in FL. (CNA since 2001). GA and FL nursing licenses have reciprocity, so first I will get GA and then FL since I still want to stay working in FL. I hope you do well in school. Nursing and helping people is a very fullfilling job. :)

Yeah, but the program in ga does not accept government student loans and I didnt have the money to keep going. If they cut me because I live in georgia that is not right because they had to go by criteria for admission and it was based on those scores and mine was not low. I may go to the school and have a discussion with them.

I just don't understand it at all. I applied for the night classes over at Nassau and I know that they only had 24 seats. I didn't sleep at all last night. Last fall I was accepted at altamaha tech but found I couldnt financially afford it and they dont accept the stafford loans. I bought all my books and everything and withdrew . I am reapplying there hopefully I can get back in. So frustrating

I did not get accepted and had a score of 10.75. I live in camden county georgia and wonder if that is the reason I didn't get accepted. The letter is hard to figure out and it doesn't come right out and say I am not accepted, it states if I dont hear from the school by the first week of classes to reapply.
