  1. exactly! I've decided to do the internship along with a self study to be a CPM, and then an associates rn and then on to frontier, using my CPM as stand in for L&D experience. ... ideally- ha :) Its really nice to see other people have gone or are trying to go about the same path as I am planning. trauerweidchen- if you stay in MN, I'll be back living there in about four years! LOVE these threads by the way. everyone is so helpful!
  2. I'm saying if you want addition knowledge, why pay the big bucks. I really don't see why an expensive MEAC backed program would be of use to someone who just wants more information. Especially when becoming a CNM is not cheap. No parent is going to know what MEAC is anyway, there are so many acronyms associated with midwifery.
  3. If you just want extra knowledge and training, maybe do a cheap, non MEAC CPM program. There's one called Via Vita, Via Vita Midwifery Foundation's Course Information, that is super cheap, the midwife I am apprenticing with used them for all her academic training.

thanks! since I posted my question, I found a WHOLE lot more info. So I feel kinda silly for posting, I guess I didn't know how to navigate the forum yet :) I've read basically all of your posts ha!
  5. I took mine a month ago, SOO NERVOUS. But it was fine. If you've been practicing and its all fresh you'll be fine! Good luck!

@klone Thanks for your input! I know I will be able to apprentice here for a year to a year and a half. And I am desperately looking for a CPM, CNM or someone to get some of my requirements done in the place we are moving too. Nice heated debate happening here :) haha

Thanks! I've reviewed this and all the states I could possible practice in allow CPMs :)

I would go straight into nursing school, but it is not an option for me where I am living now, so I have to wait until we move

For the past few months I have been extensively looking in to becoming a CNM by doing an accelerated BSN/MSN (I have my BS in Bio. My husband is military and we will be moving soon, who knows where yet, which is why I can't say if I will be doing the BSN or MSN) and then becoming a CNM. My problem is, I was recently offered an apprenticeship under a CPM. So I would do a correspondence program and get clinical and birth experience with her and become a CPM in around a year or two. I feel like CPMs are, unfortunately, not as respected in our culture, but I don't know if this is an opportunity I want to pass up. Even though it is not the career plan I had in mind... Has anyone started as a CPM and then become an CNM? I would love to hear thoughts.
