Does anyone know if they have to be solid white? Or can they have any color, like a grey outlining to a nike check?

=) With Pharmacology, you only have to go to school twice, like said. The only concern I would have about taking pharmacology during the summer is its so much information, that it will probably be harder to take during the summer's shortened time frame.

Do you like the kindle version? I have a kindle and iPad, but I'm so weary about having textbooks and such on that because I like flipping through the pages ect

I found some on Etsy. They run between 5-20, some really cute ones ! I might order one, I still dont know..lol. So indecisive. Thanks for the tips! Good to know about the book bag. I'll probably for sure just grab a regular backpack that I like somewhere now that I know I don't need one to carry a ton of stuff everywhere. Thanks for the info about the tattoos as well, I have one on the back of my neck that is easily hidden by my hair if I need to, as well as one on my wrist that a hair band or watch can cover. What is the best HESI review book to get?

I might go ahead and order one. They aren't expensive or anything, and it would be nice to be able to use it and make our stethoscope that much more distinguished. I ended up going with the coral. I'm just not sure we would be able to use them, like if it would be too much for a uniformed look. I don't blame you with the rolling back back. I hurt my back when I was an aid catching a resident, and it still gives me trouble sometimes. I don't know if I can do a rolling one though. I read that a good one is ones used for hiking, like northface or even ll bean, and others say even just a jansport works. I will be going tomorrow, probably first thing after I drop my boys off at school so I can get it done before I have to pick them up. My name is Lindsey by the way. I don't think I've ever said it.

Ahhh I just ordered my stethoscope. It makes it feel more real..lol. I had heard that its a problem with people stealing stethoscopes if they are good quality. Maybe I will order a stethoscope cover to make mine even more distinctive. I wonder if we can even use stethoscope covers lol. I will have to look into shoes. I agree that it would be easier if there was just one product for each category and every nurse uses the same one! I think deciding on a back pack is going to drive me INSANE haha!

I haven't looked for nursing shoes at all yet. Does it have to be a certain brand or can it be just plain white Nikes or something like that? One of my best friends is a nurse and told me to definitely spend the money to get a Littman Cardiology stethoscope, so I am going to look into that one. I found a few, and I can't decide between the carribean blue or coral pink..lol. I am definitely getting it engraved with my name too, just to try to help with mix ups and such. Which one are you getting?

Oh ok thanks! I will probably go with a colored one then. It makes sense about them getting mixed up if they all look the same. I also thought about just getting a black one, and then getting one of those stethoscope covers to be able to tell mine apart, but Idk if those things interfere with anything though. I ordered a few of my books last night. I was able to find Fundamentals one, with CD, for less than $25. I was excited about that! Has anyone figured out what kind of book bag you will be getting? I keep reading so many mixed reviews about what is the best kind. Some say you can use a regular back, others are suggesting huge rolling back packs. Everything is starting to sink in that we start nursing school, and I'm getting so nervous !

Is Cox's Clinical Applications Of Nursing Diagnosis the guide for nursing diagnoses and interventions you were talking about?

I was kind of leaning towards a pink one, but I don't want to get a good one and end up not being able to use it because of the color, so I'll just stick with a regular black one. I'm sure gray will be fine!

Thanks for the info again. I've started looking at stethoscopes and such. Does anyone know if we can buy colored ones, or do they need to be standard black? I am going to look for books sometime either today or tomorrow when I can find the time. I have a 15% off coupon code for alibris books (just go to the website and you can get it too). I ordered from there before and it was a good experience. If you go to the website and sign up, they will send you discounts, and I know they are running discounts now, so I'll probably check there first. Every bit of savings helps!

Wow thanks for the great info! I am definitely going to make sure I grab the books she said are used alot. I am going to start looking for the books for the classes as well, once I finally decide about the CD's. I have honestly never used a CD for my classes, but watch us need them the one semester I decide to buy used and not purchase them! I am definitely going to look into the nursing central. Where is the best place to get the BP cuff and stethoscope around here? I am honestly lost on what the best stethascope would be. Do they have to be a specific color or brand?

thanks for the link! Do you think we will need the Cd's and literally never use them! I am going to start looking for the books and buy them online. Its always so much cheaper to buy them from other places besides the school bookstores. I think GC might rely heavier on the HESI as well. I have a good GPA, but definitely not a 4.0 or anything ( I wish they only took pre-req GPA and not a cumulative, I kinda played around the first year of my last degree before buckling down and taking everything seriously, and barely passed a couple classes) , and didn't have some of the pre-reqs done, but had a good HESI score, and was accepted.

how funny! I know Adam. We weren't good friends or anything, but I know who he was, we had a lot of mutual friends. I actually think we went to elementary school together first, but I left public school after second grade to go to a private school til I started Tate in 9th grade, so I never went to Ransom. I should pull out some old year books.

I only worked as a CNA for about 7months. I worked on an alzheimers unit at a LTC facility. I loved it, but it was just too much with my husbands schedule and I worked 2nd shift, so I missed so much with the boys. Since I didn't need to work, we decided for me to just stay home. Besides school, my kids have never been in any type of daycare or anything, and I am always the one to drop them off and pick them up, so it will be different for them as well, but when I mentioned going to after school care, they were very excited because a lot of their friends go as well. I am so involved with their school and volunteering and chaperoning that I think this will be a bigger adjustment for me then them! I am glad we have Fridays off so I can still do things with them one day a week if I can. Ha! I would have graduated from Tate in 2005, but graduated from Olympic Heights down south instead. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball while I was at Tate. Where did you guys find the list of books we will need. Are there any with CD's that make you feel like you have to buy new? I almost always buy the ones so that they come with the CD's, but then I never use the CD! I had no clue you could sit for the NCLEX-PN exam after the second semester. That might definitely be something to look into. I am very very fortunate that I do not have to worry about having a job while in school (hence why I haven't used my CNA license since transferring it here) but working as an LPN, even just PRN, might be something to strongly consider. My mom is the president of a local therapy company, so I am hoping to be able to use some of her connections to find work when its time, as she knows a very large number of people in the medical field, and even employs LPNs and RN's in her work. Good luck on becoming a parent soon. It is hard, and I suspect will make nursing school more difficult, but so so worth it. My boys are the best thing to ever happen to me.

how funny, I actually grew up in Cantonment too (no one ever seems to know Cantonment, so I just say Pensacola..lol). I went to Tate until after my sophomore year, then my family moved down south to Boca Raton. The schedule seems like it might be ok at first without being too crazy. I've already looked into making my 4 year old a full time pre-k'er, and both he and my 7 year old will start at bay base, so I have full open availability during the day, and time to study when not in class. I'd prefer the morning clinicals, but my parents would always be able to swing by and pick them up after work if I have to have the afternoon clinicals. I have a large laptop too, so wasn't too sure about bringing it with me. I have an ipad, but its not the easiest thing to type on. I'm not sure if I will be bringing it with me or not. I have read that back packs used for hiking, like the North Face recon are good bags for nursing school, so I may end up going with something like that. I may go ahead and buy some books as well. I am going to try to get them used to save as much money as possible. I wish they would go ahead and give us the list of everything we need to buy/have done (books, stethoscope, scrubs, TB test, ect) before results of our drug test and background check to save a little bit of rush when we do get it, but I understand the reasoning of waiting. I JUST paid for the criminal check a few months ago when I transferred my CNA license to FL, so it kind of stings to have to pay the 80 again lol. I haven't used my license in almost 4 years, but figured it would be good to have it active here just in case.

I am also taking Pharm this semester and I am SO glad. I wanted to try to take A&P Lab and micro this semester, but because of my schedule, I wasn't able to work it out, so I'll take it during the summer. My stress has gone down too! I was putting so much on getting into the program I wasn't sure what I would do if I didn't. I didn't really have a plan B. However, now it will be a new stress I'm sure, trying to get everything done and then getting started. I talked to someone last weekend that was in the first semester of the program. She said pretty much the same things anyone in nursing has said, in that its tough, be prepared to not have much of a social life, and to plan to devote all free time to studying. She also said the same thing about the math test, in that you have to get a 90 or higher the first time, and a 100 the second. I have no idea about the schedules. The girl I talked to said clinicals are 6:45-12:45, Tuesday and Wednesday, but Im sure that could probably change every semester. What have you figured out as far as thinking what the schedule will be like? I am starting to look for bags, I've actually never used a book bag and always just a cute tote or something, but my shoulder won't be able to handle it with all the nursing books I'm sure, and it would be nice for our schedule to allow time to leave books in the car and get them between classes. I live in Lynn Haven, and have been here since last year. I previously lived in Indiana, but grew up in Pensacola.

Oh good to know. I might have to wait until afternoon than because I am suppose to help out in my sons class that morning. I might have to go in the afternoon, at least they are open until 4. I figured I could go right after I drop them off, then be back in time for the class party. I actually have two little boys, 4 and 7. I am nervous about keeping up with them and everything with school. My ex husband lives in Indiana, so I don't have much help from him, but luckily my parents are willing to help as much as they can. I'm sure it will be harder having children, but I also think they give that much more of a push, because I am doing this just as much for them as I am for myself. I am going to take it through the American Heart Association. Its on the 9th, from 800-1130. I'm taking the first one on this list. Class Connector Schedule Results- American Heart Association

I wanted to get in last Friday to take my UA, but my son's bday party was this weekend and I was so busy finishing up I didn't have the time, so I'll be doing it this Friday. I went ahead and registered to take my CPR class as well. I'll be taking it on the 9th. I wanted to go ahead and do it so I wasn't rushed. This is my first time applying too, and was really nervous about getting in. I already have a degree in Criminal Justice, and wanted to apply last February. I wasn't able to though, because in Indiana, where I moved here from last year, A&P is only worth 3 credits, so I had to take just the lab to make up that 1 credit difference. I still have A&P lab and Micro to do, but I will do them over the summer. I was really worried not having those done would stop me from getting in the program!

Any other students who are mothers?
I have two little boys as well, and their dad lives about 800 miles away, so it's just us. I just found out I got into the nursing program, so I am a little nervous about the work load. I have a previous degree that I earned while being a mother, but it sounds as if nursing will be much more intense. Luckily I have help from my family.

Any spring 2014 applicants?
I just have to turn in the acceptance/denial to the program letter, then pay for the background check, and take the drug test, within the next week and a half. Once they get the background check and drug test results in, then we get our "formal" acceptance and find out everything else we have to do. I am not worried about passing either one though!
