Labs/Blood Gases
Hi! I am wondering if anyone has a NICU cheat sheet. I'm mostly interested in lab values, blood gases (and how you would treat the blood gas) etc.

Heparin Locks/Flushes
Yeah at the last places I have worked, we ran KVO 1 ml an hour or 0.5 ml an hour in lumens or lines that were needed just for meds/access. I just can't believe that hospitals are still using heparin, it is such a dangerous thing, aside from the increased risk of infection.

Heparin Locks/Flushes
I've worked in NICU for a while now, this is my fourth job in NICU. This is the first one where heparin flushes and locks are used. Isn't this really outdated? I'm curious to know how many of you are using them in your units. And if you think its outdated? I think it is dangerous!

How do I get a research job without research background?
Right? How do you get experience if you have to have it to get the job?

How do I get a research job without research background?
I'm tired. I'm tired of 12 hour shifts that last all night. I'm really interested. In a research position but have 2.5 years nicu experience. I live in San Diego and would love to find a research job.

How do I get involved in Neonatal Research or Conferences
Hi, I've been working NICU for quite a while. However, I'm getting tired of the hospital schedule. I'd love to get involved in neontal research, or get involved in conferences for NICU nurses/staff. Any ideas on how I go about this? Anyone have any contacts?

pros and cons of prone positioning
If we have a kid that does lots better prone we leave them there for max of six hours, the other time is spent supine and we switch their head position. Although oxygenation is totally the priority, we don't like sending kids home with poorly shaped heads. We do focus more on head shape after about thirty weeks AGA.

California NICU
I'm new around here, so someone please let me know if this should be posted in a different area. I'm moving to San Diego in the next three months and would like some guidance as to where to work. I really only want to work NICU, and I am wondering if where the best level III and above NICUs are in the San Diego area. I am open to working elsewhere, but definitely prefer peds and/or nicu to anything else. Where are good places to look in San Diego? What hospitals are good to work for? Also, I have been trying to find a pay scale as to about what wage I would start at, I have just over two years of experience. I mostly want to know so I can look for housing in the appropriate house range. Any other tips and info is welcome!!!!
