So I am trying to keep everything confidential as this situation just happened today. Last Friday I was drug tested at my job as part of my facilities pre-employment drug screening(I have been working at this company for 2 yrs however a new contract company took over making us all new hires). However, I hate to admit but I had smoked marijuana with a friend for her birthday the week before. I was under assumption that the drug screening had been completed even though I had not taken mine yet based on the fact that I'm only part time and am only there 2 days a week. I confided in the DON (who is also a personal friend outside of work) about my dilemma and he gave me some helpful advice but also said that he had to report our discussion that we had, which I was ok with. So today while pouring my meds for med pass, I get a called from my other manager to come into his office and write a Staten about the conversation between the DON and myself;I also had my union rep with me. After writing my statement, my Manager reads it, tells me to hand in my keys and badge, and that I can no longer work until my results come back. I was devastated bit kept my composure as I left the building and walked to my car. I definitely know my results are going to come back positive but I am just wondering whether I should just put my 2 weeks in to avoid having to explain myself to the head boss, or should I let it ride it since it is a first time situation that occurred since becoming a nurse. I fully own up to what I did but cannot go back and change a thing which is why I'm considering just putting in my resignation and moving on. I'm also concerned about possibly having my situation reported to my BON. I'm just so confused and stressed out and just needed to vent.
  2. I currently work with a nurse in a correctional facility who constantly writes up other coworkers, management, guards, WARDEN, you name it, for no apparent reason other than to I guess make a name for herself. I graduated with this said coworker as well and even in nursing school she seemed a little off. She would do random things like come up to our study group and start talying about her 6 year olds crooked winker. Then during orientation at work she tells me and the other guards graphic details of her intimate life and if any of them, including myself, want to take a "go around and see for ourselves". Needless to say I no longer accept her invitation to eat lunch together and take at least a 45 minute shower when I get home from work :) :)
  3. wgu rn-BSN discussion group is the fb name. u will need to join and an admin will send you a pm requesting your email and start date and then send you a link to approve u for the group
  4. oo that's werid. I thought they accepted all states. were you able to find any other schools?
  5. have u looked into Duquesne msn in forensic nursing? I believe it is online but do not quote me on that. the webite is Duquesne University - Pittsburgh, PA | Duquesne University also try using Google to look into information or there is the forensic nursing certification website I think it is afn? but again don't quote that. let me know what you find out! :)
  6. thank you for the input! my interview went very good actually. I was interviewed by an interim clinician because the new don doesn't start for a couple more weeks. he was really nice and after we wrapped up he had one of the lead RN's on the floor come and ask me a couple more interview questions. just waiting on the results
  7. I also went the LPN route after applying to numerous RN programs just to be put on their waiting list. It took me a total of 12 months to complete the PN program and I took the NCLEX 30 days later. After having my son 1 month after taking my boards and landing a job at an MH/MR facility, I enrolled back into the LPN-RN bridge program at the school I went to complete my PN. It only took 9 months to complete and I took the NCLEX 60 days later. Now I am currently enrolled in a BSN program after only being an RN for 2 short months and hope to be finished by December which then I will make the decisionon whether or not to pursue a masters degree. It took me a total of 3 years to complete all of this all while raising 2 small children as a single parent. The only choice that I would have changed would have been to went to a 4 year college to experience the "college" life but I had my first child at 19 so I had to go into mommy mode and do what was best (which I have mastered excellently if I do say so myself :). Whatever route you choose just make sure you're doing it because you want to not because other people want you too. Good luck! :)
  8. Hey all! soo after hundreds of applications and resumes to open hospital postions, I finally received a call last week from a hospital (where I previously worked at as a PCT for 5 years) for an interview on their detox unit. I am really excited and since I've been at the local county jail for a year now, I am hoping to share some of my experiences with the supervisor and what I can bring to the table if hired. I do get nervous during interviews and tend to fiddle with my hands and start sentences using words like "um" lol it's a horrible habit so does anyone out there have any interview pointers they would like to share for my big day? I definitely am not going to mention that I have no desire to stay on the detox unit and that this was just a stepping stone to get into a hospital. Any help would be great!
  9. I'm excited to get started. Basically the only thing I've done so far is order a new laptop charger since mine went missing last month, and try to get in some ot while spending ad much time with friends, family, and my kids since I will probably be super busy this summer
  10. I'm also starting in June hoping to be done by December :) I will probably be doing most of my studies while on break at work and when my kids go to sleep since I only work evening shift it should hopefully be ok
  11. @scarletknight here is my email [email protected] send me a msg plz! Congrats @nocnicurn! I'm so ready to get started :)
  12. I took biology course at my local community college back in 2009 so I was able to transfer it in so I was happy about that. I do have to take statistics though but from what I heard it is not very difficult. Is anyone starting in June willing to send their emails so we can be study buddies?
  13. Lol wow 15 years is a long time. I honestly cannot wait to be done with school all together. Yup, I think I've maybe had 6 months of break since 2012 and have been doing school ever since but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel :).
  14. @athomenurse, congrats! I also have 40 credits to complete.
