uk rn asking about crnbc...
Hi to one and all I'm a UK trained RN applying for registration in BC. I sent all the required paperwork to the crnbc in November 2005 and I'm still waiting to hear if I'm eligible for registration. The secure area of the crnbc website informs me that they have all the required things that they want and I've even received a letter saying they consider me to be 'of good character'. Can anyone tell me if it is it usual for things to take this long? Or have I dropped out of the system somehow and been forgotten? I would email them, but my previous emails to them have sometimes taken a month or more to elicit a reply and the answers I get seem cryptic and don't always answer my question, so it's probably quicker to ask here!..is this normal? Thanks very much in advance for any help/reassurance!

uk rn asking about maple ridge...
Hi to one and all I'm a UK trained RN and in the last stages of getting registered in BC. I've had a job offer from Fraser Health which I'm going to take up and start working (ideally) summer 2007. I work in surgery (colo-rectal and vascular mainly, but I can turn my hand to pretty much anything, (as a half decent nurse should be able to!)) and I'm researching the web for hospitals in Fraser Health to see which ones appeal. I've got a wife, four kids under 12, no desire to live in a big city and enjoy time outdoors. Taking these factors as well as the money/cost of housing into consideration, we're looking at moving to Maple Ridge and working at Ridge Meadows Hospital. Is there anyone here who can tell me a little about Maple Ridge and some insight into Ridge Meadows? Is it a good place to live and work? Also, is it feasible to live in Maple Ridge and commute to places like Eagle Ridge Hospital or the Royal Columbian Hospital or Mission Memorial? What kind of distances are these and how long does the journey take? Any insight you could give would be fab. Thanks very much and take care.

UK RN needs advice/wise words
Hi all, hope you are doing well. I've been offered a surgical nursing post with fraser health. I understand that this means I can work anywhere within fraser health so my questions are... 1) which facilities within fraser health have surgical units that you would 'recommend' to work in (conditions, staff levels, management attitude etc..) and 2) what are the places like that they are sited in (populations, schools, crime rates, housing afforability on a nurses wage (got 4 kids under 12 and a wife) etc...) Any information is all useful, so thanks very much in advance...

how does healthcare work in Canada..?
Hi all I'm an RN in England and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the healthcare system works in Canada-particularly in BC. Is it publicly funded, like in Britain, where anyone can get any care they need? Or is it private, where if you don't have insurance then you can only get what you can afford? Does it vary from province to province? Any help/clarification greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

length of time to exam results?
Hi Carcha, thanks for the speedy reply. 10 weeks? Is that all? Gosh! I'd kind of imagined it would take way longer than that. Good news indeed! Went to Ontario this August - what a wonderful place. Thanks again.

length of time to exam results?
Hi Carcha bit of a related question really....I'm in the UK and just filling in my application forms for registration in BC. How long did your friend have to wait for the system to process him before he got an exam date? Thanks very much.

British nurse asking about the difference between a RN and RPN...
I currently work in the UK as a RN on an acute surgical ward at my local hospital and within the next few years my family and I are hoping to emigrate from the UK and settle in Canada. Can anyone tell me the difference, in practical terms, between a RN and a RPN in Canada? What can a RN do that a RPN can't do? Is a RPN like a ward auxiliary in Britain? Ward auxiliaries help with washes, feeding and other care duties around the ward that don't require specific nurse training to be able to do. I've tried looking on the web for this info, but have so far drawn a blank. If anyone can help, I'd be grateful, Thanks in advance...
