Hi everyone! I am interviewing for this summer's cohort and was wondering if you could tell me how you are liking the residency program so far?

Had mine for the CVICU on Wednesday March 25 via skype (I'm from california). I thought it went well... I was told that we would hear about job offers the first week of May!

Laptop only. I cut and paste the content from powerpoints slides into a word document and add in notes from the lecture and the book in different colors. I'm usually too busy taking notes to be distracted with facebook etc. I find it nice that all my notes are in one location. I think you'll find that everyone's learning style is different, you need to find what works best for you.

Hello all! I'm not sure if I'm posting this question in the right place, but I figured I would give it a shot here. I'm currently a nursing student in southern California and I was wondering how one can be competitive for a new grad program? What kind of criteria do these programs look at generally? What kind of things can I be doing while I'm still in school to increase my chances of being accepted to a new grad program once I graduate? Thanks!

Daisy- I dont really know anything about the RN- BSN program. I know some people in the program, and I know that they work as RNs, but I dont know how much. I also dont know if you can attend the program part time. Sorry! I think the school sometimes holds information sessions for the RN-BSN program, so i would look into that

Daisy- 1) No, unfortunately you cannot attend the nursing program at CSULB part time. The nursing instructors at CSULB recommend working less than 12 hours a week. I know of people that work more, and some people who dont work at all. If attending CSULB is your dream then I suggest doing some financial planning/look at loans so that your able to attend school full time. The only schools I know of that are part time are private, which can be significantly more expensive than a public CSU. You'll have to decide which is the better option for yourself. 2) As for the online program at western governors college- Ive never heard of it. The only thing i can suggest to compare western and CSULB is there NCLEX pass rates, their retention rate and speaking to students who attend the colleges. As a CSULB student I can tell you that getting into the program was not easy. Your pre requisite grades have to be mostly As in order to be accepted. Once your in the program the work is gets harder. The pros of CSULB are the teachers are great (for the most part) and The NCLEX pass rate are pretty high (something close to 98%). As for CSULB reputation in the community- that's something I'm trying to figure out by starting this thread. I've heard from people that CSULB students are usually snatched up once they graduate, but I wanted to hear from a recent graduate to see if this is still the case. Good Luck!

Liz- So far I love the program at CSULB, the teachers especially. The teachers I had last semester were amazing beyond belief, lets hope I have the same luck next semester! I'm in the bachelors program, so I'm not sure if I'm the best resource. I once spoke to a person in the ELM program who seemed satisfied with the program. A word of caution- a teacher of mine was telling me that the ELM program was in jeopardy due to budget cuts, so I might check the status of the program your applying to. Otherwise good luck on your journey!

Hell all! I'm currently enrolled an a nursing program in southern California and I'm hoping to work on a burn unit when I graduate. When I first started to think about burns I didn't think it was impacted, but now I'm hearing of more and more people wanting to enter the field. In your opinion is the Burn unit difficult to be hired to? Is the competition similar to Peds or Labor and Delivery? Thanks in advance!

Hey Everybody! I'm currently enrolled in the nursing program at Cal State Long Beach. Lately I've been reading how difficult it is for new grads to find jobs. My question is whether or not anybody knows about hiring stats of CSULB grads. More specifically are CSULB grads better off, worse, or about the same as other new grads in the area when it comes to finding jobs after graduation? Any input is greatly appreciated!
