Hi everyone, I'm posting this on behalf of my mom, who is currently an LPN, who isn't very computer savvy. I'm not a nursing student nor do I intend on pursuing a nursing degree so please excuse me in advance for my limited knowledge on the path towards a nursing degree. A little background on my mom: My mom graduated with her RN-BSN in the Philippines and was a practicing RN when she lived in the Philippines. When she emigrated to the U.S. she had to put her career on hold for about 2 years to raise her 5 children. When she decided to go back into the nursing world, she was unable to pass her NCLEX-RN exam but managed to pass the NCLEX-PN. To date, I believe she has attempted the NCLEX-RN 3+ times but to no avail. My mom currently works at a retirement community as an LPN (17+ years experience in geriatric care) and it's heartbreaking to see her day in and day out performing the same duties as an RN on an LPN's salary. She basically plays the role of "head nurse" without the official title at her current job. Also, it seems as if LPNs will gradually be phased out in the near future as the demand for RNs grow. If anyone can provide any helpful advice on how to approach this situation, it would be greatly appreciated. (Taking an NCLEX course? Are there such things as an LPN-RN refresher courses?) I'm sorry for such a long post but thank you in advance for any assistance.
