Thanks for the input estrellaCR! Have you worked as a nurse? I was also under the impression that internal candidacy beared a lot of weight. I understand and respect their loyalty in that regard but it tends to leave out other people who had extensive clinical hours in nursing school. I wonder how external candidates from out-of-state nursing schools get hired there. I'm ready to cast a bigger net though. I got the same notice from NYP. I will love any agency nice enough to hire me. I have a shiny new BSN and RN license that I want to use and I'm ready to get my hands dirty. All I need is training. I graduated with strong academic standing but I don't know if it makes a big ripple when many applicants have the same credentials and years of experience on top of that. But there are still some fortunate new grads out there with jobs and to you guys I say, congrats and I hope to join you soon someday. As for re-applying to NYP after one year of RN experience elsewhere, I just wonder how it would work logistically in light of their loyalty to internal candidates. It's still experience elsewhere even if it's experience. If anyone has tips on how to stand out as an applicant and make it to/past the Career Battery/interview/get a New Grad position, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the information everyone - much appreciated. I was placed on the waitlist and received an email to take the career battery after which I received another email encouraging me to apply again to NYP after I worked elsewhere. Was this because of the answers I provided on the careery battery? Any idea as to the kind of answers they look for? I wasn't able to work as an aide at NYP because I attended an accelerated nursing program outside of NY. I also didn't have time to do externships during my summers because my program was 18 straight months, including summers. Congrats to all who made it through. Just wondering if it gets any easier with nursing experience. I know they prefer internal applicants regardless of whether you're a new grad or experienced nurse.

My nursing school and current residence is not in New York but I might eventually go back to New York which is where my family is. Since I just finished my BSN, I don't know how likely it is that I will get a position as a nursing companion as you mentioned especially if I obtain my RN. If that is the case, it seems like it would be pretty challenging to enter NYP as an RN! I also don't have any job offers thus far (I am mostly just applying online although I hear that isn't the surefire way to get a job offer) but am still applying wherever I can and am considering going in person to drop of my application however much that may help. The floor I was on for my senior clinical isn't hiring so it was tough to find a job opportunity there. Gonna keep moving!

I graduated in December with my BSN (second degree) and am interested in applying to the New Grad Nurse program at NYP. Does anyone know if NYP has New Grad applications available on their website for December grads (e.g., in December/January)? I know they have applications for May/June graduates. I hear that the applications are up for a brief amount of time and get taken down quickly. I just want to make sure I don't miss the posting. Is checking the website the only way? Thanks!
