  1. I am in recovery. I was diverting and self reported in July. During innterviews I tell them I had a personal problem and self reported so I could get the help and support I needed. My contract allows me to continue working as a nurse but with restrictions. No narcs for the first 6 months, a work site monitor, random drug screens, meetings 3 time a week, plus other Dr, Addictionist, Therpist meetings. I have been on over 20 interviews and nothing was happening. Finally I interviewed at an endo clinic. I told them about my monitoring contract. I also told them I had a personal issue self reported etc. Well they offered me the job I was so excited. BUT....I never told them I diverted. My case worker did though and they recinded the offer, I lost the job. I am currently filing an appeal over my caseworker revealing my personal information. There company hand book and web site states our information is private. Regardless what I am looking for is what others have said. Has anyone admitted during an interview they diverted? Whats your thoughts on this? I am so depressed over losing that job.The nurses at this clinic did not give patients any narcs. They had the Drs do that. All the nurses did was start IVs and educate the pts about the procedure. There wasnt even any nurses in the procedure room WOW it was perfect for me I would never be tempted. I explain my addiction to non addicts like I'm an alcoholic who worked in a bar and in order to stay clean I can NEVER work in a bar again. So the endo clinic was my job outside of the bar. no narcs no tempations in my face. outa sight outa mind so to speak. Oh don't get me wrong I am forever an addict and will forever need to work a program to stay clean. But having a job away from temtation does help a person stay clean. So about what to say in an interview, do you tell all or tell just enough?????
  2. Hello I live in MI and am also under contract with HPRP. I understand your concern about this new company who just took over HPRP. I have had a huge problem with them. I interviewed for a job and what I told them was that I had some personal problems that I self reported so I could get the help and support I needed. I never ever told them I had diverted. My case worker did though and needless to say I did not get the job. I thought our information was private. I am in a huge disagreement right now with HPRP. They are trying to kick me out non compliant. I have had to appeal my case to the board. I have not heard anything yet and I am sitting on pins and needles. I am totally confused. There hand book and web site states our case is confidental. Yet they disclosed my personal information anyway. How am I ever gona get a job if I have to tell anyone I diverted. The job was a drug free place, they didnt have any drugs at there facility at all. I really thought it was a perfect place for me. I could be a nurse and never have to be around drugs ever. Sorry didnt mean to babble. I just saw someone here who understands the fears of this new company and wanted to reach out. I hope the outcome is good for you. I hope they understand your situation and will give you a chance to prove yourself. If you need to talk I am here for you. I do understand. Best of luck
  3. Hello Lisa I am also in recovery and understand everything your going thru. I am so happy to be drug free and getting the help I wanted but like you its very hard to find the way back to employment after self reporting. I self reported in july and am in HPRP, Thats Health Professional Recovery Program. I have had a really hard time finding work. I almost got a job a month ago. When I interview I am honest in saying I had a personal Problem and self reported so I could get the help and support I needed. I have never told them I diverted. I explain the program to them and basically sell myself. Unfortunally my caseworker from HPRP told them I diverted and I lost that job offer. I was so depressed.Still am. I am still trying to figure out what to reveal in my interviews. Will I ever work again. I am totally broke. I am going to meetings weekly. Seeing my addictionist monthly. I call daily for random drug screens. I have been clean since July10th. I am ashamed of what I did. I wanted to get caught honestly because I wanted help so bad. I didn't want to be addicted anymore. I wanted my life back. I have been a nurse for 22 yrs working in Med Surg, ER, ICU. I am having trouble trying to think of what kind of job I can do. I can not pass Narcs for 6 months. I have to have a work site monitor so home care is out. I just don't know where to go from here. Any help would be VERY welcome. Finding this form has actually lifted my spirts. Its a comfort knowing I am not alone in this journey.
