  1. Just from my own experience with a 15 year old DUI on my record and a possession of stolen goods charge (9 years ago) that was dropped, I was able to still get into a top ten nursing school in the country for a direct-entry masters program. I was honest on my application and it came up in my interview, however, I was still accepted. I paid for a background check on myself and neither of those charges came up. This is not fact for all schools, but I have heard they are usually concerned with up to 5 years back. I would def. not lie on your application because they will find out. I think our biggest hurdle will come with the BON. What state do you live in b/c all states follow a different protocol. Best of luck.
  2. I can't pm yet since I don't have 15 post. I hope my other post goes through
  3. Wow, that is great news. That didn't take them long at all to approve you to sit for boards, what was it like 2 weeks. That is great for me then too. Just so you know, I applied to nursing school for a direct entry accelerated MSN program and was accepted. I was upfront and honest about my past too on my application. I feared the worst about getting in and then I did. I can't believe it b/c it is a very competitive school. So I believe you have a very promising future ahead of you. Best of luck!
  4. Are you a nurse in VA?
  5. NO, they didn't involve hurting anyone or drugs. And one was 8 years ago and the other 14 years ago. By the time I finish nursing school, that will add 2 years to both. I plan to be brutally honest on my application and I am already gathering all my information so when it comes time to submit I am not waiting. Have you personally dealt with them b/c I know what the site says but I would love to hear if you actually have dealt with them? I looked at cases with people who are already licensed and it amazes me what they approve. People have lied, used drugs, violent fights, and were still able to keep their licenses in VA. I thought that was crazy.
  6. Any word back yet, I am curious how long Va BON takes with incidents like this...UGH. I am concerned about trying to get certified documentation b/c I contacted the courts and the records get tossed after ten years. So how do you get anyting that is official to give them?
  7. Good luck with the process, let me know how long it takes and what they say. I'm curious if it takes a long time to just even sit for nclex. Also, did you put on the application what you had done and then just submitted documentation all at once? That is what I want to do to not hold up the process.
  8. Does anyone know how hard it is to get approved for VA BON? I have 2 misdemeanors from over ten years ago? I have all my documentation ready and will be honest and upfront on the app to sit for nclex but are they impossible? Does anyone know?
  9. HEllo all, Does anyone know if it is really hard to get licensure with Virginia Board of Nursing if you have a criminal past? 2 misdemeanors from a long time ago, ten years and counting. Are they good about approving you to sit for licensure if you have all your documentation up front and are honest. I have all the documentation already but I worry about getting denied. Anyone have experience with VA BON?
