Thank you for everyone's feedback. I have confronted this person and tried to politely inquire about how the school wants them to account for the hours and he states this is what he and everyone else he knows in the program is doing. He has said they are only allowed to log no more than 10 patients in 1 day so he has to be putting it in 2 days. One of the other students in the program who is also working full time does clinical in 2 half days/week. I am not sure how they are logging in their e-logs, they could be putting 2 days down, who knows. I am not in fact his preceptor but have been approved to be, we don't see kids under the age of 3 so he could not use me.

Ha ha, just for giggles: Here is one of the emails from the beginning of his program from him to me. I have a bunch more too!: "Good morning. I did not get my assignment completed last night. It took me forever to read-then reread the differences. If you have time to look at this or add/subtract to it that would be awesome and save me time tonight. Let me know what you think. I found a like that provides each state requirements on my home computer but unfortunately did not send to my work computer. Thank you" Thank you for everyone's feedback. I wouldn't even know who to contact at the school. Can't complain to boss, doesn't have anything to do with it and don't want to bring anyone else into situation. Really wanted clarification on what everyone else would do or if they have ever encountered a similar situation. I don't want to get them kicked out of their program, want people to succeed but not like this I guess!

Elkpark, no I don't want to report to his school (although) I want to make a point! I went to a great school that really adhered to academic integrity and I felt it brought a higher standard to our program. For conversation sake, it is Chamberlain that he is attending. Maybe it really is a thing at Chamberlain, counting patients instead of hours. I know you need so many hours at all of the programs I have looked into, not counting patients. Might I add that the person is really peeved at me because I refused to do his homework on numerous occasions. He would blatantly walk into my office hand me his text books, articles sometimes and printed out homework assignments and ask me to fill out what I thought were the answers since he is just slammed and didn't have enough time to finish the night before. Just an all around bad student who has no time management. He would text me at night with huge messages giving me his case studies to see what I would do for workup, tx and differentials. Not that it matters but he is middle aged, no kids living at home and is married, everyone has things to do outside of school and work but this person just takes it too far. Thanks for your input!!

Thanks Double-Helix, The student says when they have more time in the summer they will complete 2 days but really don't think that will happen either. Why would you all of a sudden go from 1 to 2 if you have gotten away with it this far. Also I believe in her peds rotation she will be working with a RN who does the well child checks for the pediatrician. I didn't have all the time on my hands when I went back to school nor did thousands of others. It just really irks me that some universities allow this behavior. When I confront him regarding the hours he just blows me off and gets very defensive. Just ridiculous really...

I have an issue and maybe some of you can make light of it for me. I am a practicing FNP and have been asked to be a preceptor for someone whom I work with. He is in FNP school and thankfully I am not his preceptor at this time. When I ask how his hours are coming along he says just fine. He is in his 2nd clinical rotation and is working full time. All of the NP programs I know of require 16 hours of clinical hours per week. He takes one day off his full time job weekly to complete an 8 hour clinical rotation. He states he can see 16 patients a day and count each patient as 1 hour of clinical since it takes him 1 hour to work up the patient, which is complete BS. I know he cannot take off work to have a second day of clinical so he just reports the fake hours. So basically will have half of the clinical hours needed. He just finished his first rotation a few weeks ago and I thought he would have been caught but wasn't. He also says that other people in the program are doing the same thing, only 1 day a week and counting it as 2. I and everyone I know that has completed a NP program has worked their butt off to complete their program and it just really irritates me that others just mend the program to their liking. Has anyone else experienced this?? It is really cheating in my opinion and I feel it takes integrity away from the profession and people are taking short cuts.

Thank you again for everyones advice and sharing personal experience. It seems like luck of the draw where you work if people have a good experience or not. It is too bad that others in the surgery setting don't become a team. It would seem to me that the more involved people were about teaching new hires the ropes instead of an enormous amount of time teasing and harassing things would get off to a quicker start. I find myself not trusting anyone and a few of the girls at work told me on friday I just need to learn to be a b*tch like them. I have my sisters wedding in the summer and they already told me it will be very hard for me to take anytime off work. Others who have more seniority always take July vacation so that leaves nothing for anyone else. What a crappy place to work.

I am a nurse with 6 years of peds well baby experience and have recently been hired into the OR as a circulator. I have no hospital experience before this and have only worked in an office setting. I have good days and bad days in the past 4 weeks that I have been in the OR but I wanted to seek advice from other nurses or techs and ask them for their insight. Every Wednesday that I have been in my current position I am assigned (with my preceptor) to a certain cst and one dr. we follow this one particular doctor all day, mostly plastics cases. He will typically ask an array of questions and name very detailed anatomy of whatever he is working on. He will wait about 20-30 minutes and then ask me to repeat whatever we went over previously. If you do not get the answer correct you get 3 choices (phone a friend, 50/50, or poll the audience). Last week we went over the anatomy of the face/lips. He asked me a question I did not know so I phoned a friend and picked his rnfa. she said she didn't know the answer either. after about 40 seconds she finally said the answer but told me rudely I should write everything down. The same tech instigates his behavior. Everyone sings her praises and our charge nurse came in the room today and told her "you make the world go round, not sure what we would do with out you." She also asks for things in a very stern way and half the time she says stuff really quick almost on purpose so i have to ask her to repeat it to make sure I get the right item. every time i talk with her she is rude and harsh with me. my second week we were setting up a room and she started to put her gown on and i came up behind her and said can i help you with your gown, she replied its not going to tie itself is it? when i am learning how to properly prep the pt she is always standing there it seems like judging me. i understand it needs to be done correctly and i want to do a good job but it just seems like she is looking for a way to intimidate me. when i take a little longer she sighs a lot and it seems like there is always tension and awkwardness btwn us. The same doctor gave me a hard time about following my preceptor to lunch last week after our relief came for our break. he asked where i was going as i was following my preceptor and she said quietly to me "he wants you to ask him permission to leave with me". he let me go after i asked him. our relief said one time when she was new he made her call the holding room and ask if his next pt had a hcg done and she was over 90 yo. he also made me call our nurse liason and ask for an otis elevator. little did i know that that is a brand of elevator our facility uses. she laughed and came back to the room later and they all had a laugh on my behalf. most of the dr/nurses/techs have been good to work with. i am just having a hard time differentiating normal behavior on behalf of this particular tech or why she is having a problem with me. i am nice, come to work with a smile on my face everyday i have been there, avoiding being negative and have even tried to have conversation with her and she won't look at me or even reply to me half of the time i talk to her. to make a long story short i have left the past 2 wednesdays feeling extremely overwhelmed and uncertain that I want to carry on with my training. has anyone experienced a similar situation? i feel like my preceptor and her are always laughing and joking so not sure my preceptor is a great unbiased opinion. my charge nurse is the same way. i know the OR is a tough place and i need to find my way but how do i deal with a hostile co-worker? i can see in her eyes how much she despises me every time she looks at me. should i confront her before going to my manager? i am afraid that if i do so she will spread the word to the rest of the staff and make things worse for me. am i just being paranoid?
