  1. I am finishing my pre-req's and I have to retake A&P 2. I live in Western MA and at my school, you need a C+ or higher for it to count towards the nursing program. I received a C- the first time around. However, when applying for the nursing program, they do look at grades when accepting students into the program. It's your choice if you want to retake it to get a better grade. Our advisors recommend that students take them over but it's ultimately your choice.
  2. I had a hard time getting a job after my previous employer closed. I applied in November 2011 to a place where I knew they were hiring. My interview went well until I said these magic words...."I am looking to work 3-11 as I am taking courses to get into the RN program." Well, I got, "We have a strict orientation process and if you go to classes then you can't work here". I called them back at the beginning of January and heard from a friend of mine that I was labeled as a "not good fit" for this place. I wrote a letter stating that I dropped out of school and was available to do the orientation. I then find out that since I was labeled "not a good fit" I didn't get the job. Long story short, once the lady who interviewed me retired, I reapplied for a third time and finally was given the opportunity to work there. I have been working there since August 2012.
  3. I agree that it is a comfort issue. We have a floor where I work where men don't usually work on that floor because a majority of the woman on the floor don't want men to take care of them. At first I took offense by it but now I realize it is a comfort issue and it's their right to have someone else take care of them if they want.
  4. Renee, I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. Chalk this incident up to a learning experience. Learn from this mistake and hopefully this won't happen again. I wish I could offer you advice in whether you will be fired or not. Each facility is different and from my experience, some people will get fired and some will get warnings for the SAME incident. For example, at my old facility, if you hoyered by yourself and got caught you got fired. However, a male aide who worked a lot of hours got caught red handed and only got a slap on the wrist. In regards to your situation, be honest when speaking to your supervisor and tell him/her that it was a mistake. From what it sounded like, the issue isn't the number of assists for putting the man to bed (there was the A x1) but that he didn't listen or hear you when you said for him to stay in the chair until you fixed the bed. Accidents will happen on the job and yes you will learn from them. I am also a CNA so I know where you are coming from. Good luck!
