Hi Everyone! I work for a small office based surgery center. I have alot of autonomy as a nurse, but unfortunately, I do not get alot of experience working with other nurses. I would love to do some part time work or even volunteer work in and around NYC for more experience, and more networking opportunities. Does anyone have any ideas of clubs, organizations, volunteer opportunities that I should be aware of? How many of you are involved in outside nursing organizations, do you enjoy them? I just need a little help getting started...I would like to work with children/infants/ mother baby. Any ideas? Thanks!

I worked in an office based surgery center right after graduating nursing school. It was a great experience and I learned alot. I got experience in many different nursing roles, all at once...operating room, recovery room, clinc nursing etc. I think working in an office or clinic type setting also helped me learn about the business side of medicine, and how it works to run a private practice. You also get alot of patient experience, and most of the time get to build a relationship with them because they return often for followups etc. Depends on the type of practice you are looking at, but I had a great experience.
