  1. Hi! Sorry for the delay. I applied sept, interviewed October. Hope that helps!
  2. I also did not apply to the schools you are looking at. I just got into the same program as missnurse01 though! I looked into N. Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia schools though, however i only applied to 2 schools in the end. I called the schools though and the min GRE seems to be 300. i was told they expected the verbal to be mid-150s and the math to be mid-140s at least. This is of course the minimum, so I would try to aim for a little higher than that. Also, keep in mind that schools look at the whole package. I had a friend who got into Akron (crazy hard interview. people were actually crying!) and she said they interview everyone who meets their min requirements, so the interview plays a big role in their decision. You should call the schools to get a better idea of what they look for. I also found older posts from prior interviewees extremely helpful even if it was from other schools. You can at least get interview question samples to practice. As long as you get your CCRN, ACLS, and PALS you are on the right track! I would definitely apply if it's something you really want. Oh and about GPA, they also place more weight on your nursing and science grades. hope that helps!
  3. i thought (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OF THOSE IN YOUR PROGRAM PER TOS) mentioned that we had until summer, but don't quote me on that. I paid mine yesterday just to be safe.
  4. sure usancrn! what's your email? if you have other questions, i can try to answer them as well. you can email me at [email protected].
  5. thanks!! appreciate the help :)
  6. Awesome!! I hate dealing with crazy traffic and parking. I did have a question. I'm not extremely familiar with the neighborhood, but I plan to live on the north side so my husband has an easier commute. Do you know any good areas to look into for a place to rent?
  7. I wonder what the parking is like in Roanoke. I'm starting to look into areas to live in. We plan on moving in may/June when my lease is up. So excited!
  8. She said we should be receiving an acceptance packet in the mail :)
  9. congrats to you too Kelly242! excited to know another roanoke person :) i'm scared and excited too! i can't believe we are finally in school! money is definitely a concern. I've been saving too and looking at loan options. I know how you feel though. school's going to take over our lives. i want to see my family and friends as much as possible before then. hard decisions!
  10. Schools look at more than just your GPA. Do you have your CCRN? What is your GRE score? Also, from what I heard from friends interviewing and with my interviews, schools care about the quality of your critical care experience, if you shadowed, and what committees/groups you are part of outside of your job. If you gave me more info, I might be able to give some pointers. I was accepted this year, so I was definitely in the same boat as you and can relate!
  11. also keep in mind they look at the overall package. You should get your CCRN and get good GRE scores. That will help. Also, I know people who have taken upper level patho, anatomy, or chem classes. Not all schools will care about that. It could help you prepare for the interview however. If you narrow down your schools, you can concentrate on what they look for specifically.
  12. me too! i'm really excited to find out who else will be joining us :) congrats to you as well! i thought they mentioned that everyone would be together for orientation at least!
  13. I was only looking at out-of-state schools. Definitely look into VCU. They seem to be a very fair and supportive program. I met all of their requirements and was accepted (yay!), but I also read other people's posts who are "borderline" on some aspects and were still given spots. They definitely look at the whole picture. There are other schools like that too. Also, the interview is a huge part of how qualified they think you are. I know of other programs who interview anyone who meets their requirements (which are set at the minimum) so they can see as many candidates as possible. I know Akron is one of those schools. They ask a lot of questions at the interview. My friend got into that school. Don't be nervous about applying out of state! good luck :)
  14. I'm not sure about your specific school, but I interviewed at VCU and my friend interviewed at Akron. Both of us got in, but our interviews were very different. I do know that we both had to take a written test (it's short though), which do test you on common drugs. At Akron, they did grill her on drugs. I would know your drugs because a lot of schools ask clinical questions. My interview was more nursing background, goals, and personality based. They did however place emphasis on what certifications, GPA, GRE, etc I had. It really helped searching this website for prior students who has applied to the same school. I made a list of questions and studied those. good luck! let me know if you have more questions!!
  15. I would take the CCRN. I got into VCU for 2013. During my interview I did ask them about being a competitive applicant. Your GRE scores are definitely high enough, but a lot of schools are not considering the CCRN to be more important or just as important as the GRE. It wasn't a hard test. I just studied the gasparis CDs. Good luck!
  16. I just wanted to thank everyone who posted on this website from prior years! All of the advice really helped me prepare for my interview at VCU! I start August 2013. If anyone has questions about interviewing I'd love to help :) good luck to everyone still going through the grueling interview process!!
  17. i got in! going to Roanoke! I just saw someone else on this thread who was accepted to the same campus :) good luck everyone else!
