  1. I study the practice exams no take them again ....I usually don't take them twice. However on A&P I took them both in the beginning...than I paid again and called advisor to get them reset so I could take them again....expensive and maybe overkill but again A&P was very hard. If you need any other advice just let me know. I have been excelsior student since 2000.....I had taken almost all nursing exams and micro, a&p etc. now have to retake everything....oh well.
  2. Thanks for the advice. I have a routine for all exams. I use the excelsior study guide. I take practice exams first and then I break down which sections I need work on. Then I look at what percentage of each section will be on the exam ( it lists it in the study guide). I read each chapter on the outline first then I go back through the outline and take notes. I then study my notes, the practice exams at the end. Also, have a method for taking exams which works for me. I got an A on A&P too but that one was really hard, harder than micro. Thanks again for your advice.
  3. I am currently enrolled and completing Excelsior College LPN-RN degree. All A's so far including A&P and Micro. Here's my question. Has anyone completed an ASN degree with Excelsior and then gone on to BSN or MSN at a traditional college? Also, one other question - has anyone had trouble getting a job in MN with ASN /Excelsior College...shouldn't be a problem since I work with a few RN's with degree from Excelsior and I called BON in MN but just wanted any feedback you may have.
  4. that stinks about Penn Foster. Looking to save money wherever I can. Thanks for letting me know though.
  5. I studied for about 2 months. I took excelsior outline and then just created my own off of that. I also bought an outside study guide but this didn't help much. Also, did practice exams and spent a lot of time reviewing those. Pay attention to the percentages they have as far as content for example if it says 25% of exam is on one section and 15% on another make sure you focus your time accordingly. Its 130 questions. I think this and A & P are the hardest tests. .....in my opinion.
  6. So just passed microbiolgy / ECE with an A today. Have Information Literacy and A & P left as far as prereqs. Read somewhere on here that people had taken the IL class somewhere else and transferred in the credit. Has anyone done that? can you share? Thanks!!
  7. Thanks! It seems I get more confused every day. I am almost done with my LPN remedial and will have that out of the way in January. I have met with a local college as well for a more traditional LPN-RN bridge (Daytona College).....but it seems so competitive and they won't take much of what I had already done at excelsior. It feels like my indecision is crippling me. I have eliminated the LPN-BSN option. I just need to decide EC vs Daytona State I think. Worries me that there are a couple of states where I could not work as an EC grad and some of the limitations/requirements for other states.....LunahRN looks like EC has worked for you. The thing that stopped me years ago from finishing with EC was the dreaded CPNE I don't think I could have handled it then...
  8. Hi all, I will try and make this short but sweet. I began working toward my RN degree with EC in 2001. I did not finish and went on to persue other things also, was too nervous to do the CPNE. I am now ready to get this done. I am in refresher course now to get my LPN in good standing. After that I have a decision. Here it goes... 1. I have no plans to finish my education with an Associate Degree but rather at the very least a BSN. 2. The school I am in right now for refresher just opened an LPN to BSN program. They are not accredited yet but are approved, will hopefully be accredited soon. I am wondering if hospitals possibly a magnet hospital will even consider EC educated nurses? Also, I assume that the credits from EC don't transfer very well into other programs. Also, anyone having trouble working in different states due to the requirements? The second part of this is I would assume that it is a huge negative to go to a college that is not accredited. I am so nervous to make this decision - I could be done with excelsior in about a year or have my BSN through this other option in 3-3.5 years (I have prereqs to do and retake A&P and micro). any input is sooooo appreciated. Diane (PS, my mother and sister are both EC graduates but I am not wanting to get into a discussion with them because they are so pro EC). Thanks Again!
