  1. You can apply for the Navy Nurse Candidate Program and they will give you a 10,000 bonus(given in two payments) and 1000 monthly stipened for every month you are in school up to 24 months. You in turn serve 3-5 years as a Navy nurse(time depends on money you get)The money is taxable. However I would rather be thousands in debt than to sign away my life for 5 years to something I did not want to do. I personally hope to serve in the Navy but if I didn't want to be in the Navy I wouldn't do it. You can also enlist, save money and get a GI bill and then go to nursing school. I wouldn't recommend this. How much money you get from GI bill depends on time you were in military. If you want to be in the military as a nurse then I would recommend you try for the Navy nurse candidate program or the similar Army nurse candidate program. You can find info through google and there is a lot of amazing info you can find on here. If you don't want to serve in the military in any fashion then don't sign away your life for a few years just to pay for school. There are other ways to pay for school. If you are even eligible for either candidate program chances are you are eligible for other nonmilitary scholarships because the candidate programs are competitive.
  2. Most hospitals are phasing out RNs and are only hiring BSN. And here is the kicker. Retirment homes, even schools will not hire a RN and will prefer LPNs because as an RN they will consider you overqualified. Nursing homes etc will only hire RNs as managment positions which aren't as easy to come by. So BSN is really the only way to go these days. It is one more year and worth the extra cost.
  3. I'm doing pre nursing right now and hear people complain about med/surg. What is it like working in med/surg? Is it like the ICU/ER? Sorry for my ignorance.
  4. I would begin nursing school in fall 2014. When should I apply? I'd get my acceptance letter in late january/early febuary of 2014. Are all the interviews one on one or groups? I'm on the shy side. How can I overcome this while being interviewed? What are some questions I should be prepared to ask. How quickly do these spots fill up? I need any advice I can get.
