I recently heard about chart abstraction. Can you tell me more about it? Who hires abstractors? It seems to be something I would be interested in and also working from home would be a huge plus. I worked NICU for 15 years and for the last 5 years I've worked in a midwife office handling most of their labs and doing more administrative work. I'm just really curious about this and shocked I've never heard of it in my 20 years of being a nurse!

I had an interview today! Here are a few questions that will hopefully help someone else out. What would you do- If a student came to you and thought she was pregnant (middle school) If a student wanted a bandaid for her wrist but was obviously hiding the rest of her arm from you. If a student presented with a headache after a collision with another student in gym If a student presented with a few signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis but did not have a known allergy Where do you draw the line on calling a parent or not calling. Why would a nurse need to sit in on a committee with a teacher, principal, social worker and student having academic issues? How familiar are you with diabetes regarding pumps, injections, carb counting? Have you ever had to deal with an irate parent? I'll try and think of some more..

Me again!! So, I called the school inquiring if they knew how long this "long term sub" would be. It was the superintendent's office. They said they couldn't really give me an answer given the nature of the circumstances and the the current sub has been there 3 years!! I'm guessing their hands are tied. I heard through the grapevine that the nurse there had fallen, so I'm assuming everything is being held up by disability? I dunno.. At first I thought they were scamming the system and not hiring someone so they don't have to pay a salary and benefits. Who knows. I dunno if I should apply or not. It's taking a huge risk if nothing opens up. I'd be quitting my hospital job and I just don't know what to do. How long can someone be out from a fall like that? I thought there was a time period where they would have to let them retire or terminate them so they can hire someone else?

Just saw a job posted and it said "School Nurse" then later in the info stated long term substitute. What is this? So, it's not a permanent position? I'm thinking of applying anyway. So super nervous!

I live in NJ and have been a Neonatal ICU nurse for 13 years and am making the transition to school nursing. I only need 2 classes to get my certificate. I'm super excited but also super nervous about this transition. Stupid question- How do I know what needs to be done and what paperwork needs to be filed at the beginning of the year. I'm nervous I'm going to be a school nurse and have nobody to go to for questions- not even medical questions but just simple paperwork questions. Also, not completing assignments and paperwork that needs to be done on time. I feel like I'm going to be thrown to the wolves and told good luck! I've been subbing for about a year at my kids elementary school. I feel like it is so unorganized there. Also, I feel like she's out a lot. My kids have been in school since Sept 4th and she has been out 4 days already and she's told me of 2 other days in the near future she will be out. Do you get a set amount of personal and sick days? I feel like I need a guide that says first day of school get files up to date and in SNAP. By second week of school have this done. At the end of every month do this.. I just feel like there is so much I don't know.

Wow.. Google overload! I've been a neonatal ICU nurse for 12 years. Recently I've been hearing more and more about laser hair removal, Botox injections, Lip injections etc.. I'm really really interested in this. Does anybody know about NJ laws regarding who does this? I can't seem to find a definitive answer that a Dr can now delegate this to a RN. Also, how does one make the transition? Is there more schooling involved? Can I get on the job training? I just don't know where to start. Any ideas? I don't even see any job openings/postings for this type of nursing. Which makes me wonder if the laws of NJ actually haven't changed and all of this can only be done by a Dr. All help/info is appreciated!!

I'm currently caring for a heroin addicted baby.. We use morphine and slowly wean down based on Finnegan scores. She's been there 3 weeks, and I would guess will be there another week or 2.. Never heard of "ultra rapid detox"..
