  1. I would like to volunteer, but can not afford to get there. If you come across a program that will send you, but it not too expensive, I would love to offer my nursing services! I love nursing and want to help people, please post if anyone finds cheap opportunities to help! Thanks
  2. I think a ND is a great idea and avenue to promote nurses to a higher level! I am currently completing an MSN for ANP, and would love to go on further. Has anyone heard anything about the AMA requesting that a law go into effect that all APN's are supervised??? I hear this through the grapevine at work. Just wondering if anyone has any news??
  3. Recently I heard the AMA is pushing for all APN's to be supervised in practice. I live in Illinois, the headquarters of the AMA, and this is terrifying some NP's. For all the work we had done and try to do to promote our career and the AMA could jeopardize it all it one swift movement. Due to this news I have been reconsidering Med school. I have about 1.5 years left in ANP program. I discussed these ideas with some NP's and they said it isnt any easier being a female doctor and being looked down upon or inadequate. Why is this sooooo hard!?!?! Didnt we win womens rights decades ago and we are still stuck in a man's world! I was really excited about the N.D. idea, which is where i will have to go if APN's must be supervised.....arent we then just physician assistants anyway??? Any ideas?
  4. I am attending college for my MSN in ANP. What would be a good association to join, or just the ANA, are there any special websites for NP's? I am in my first semester. and just looking around for some info. Thanks for reading. PS just got my wisdom teeth out and still a little dopey.
  5. Dont Quit Nursing. You must seek around to the job that you'll love. I gradauated 3 years ago. I am on my third job and I LOVE IT. I love nursing and am as happy as can be. My friend in nursing school also is on herr third job and she loves hers as well. You just need to shop around. You never know if you will like it unless you try it. Dont give up , this is an excellent field!
  6. I am an RN for last 2.5 years, i think i was probably born for the job. I used to play hospital when everyone else would play house. I have always wanted to help people. i chose the route of nursing becuase i wanted increase patient care, though in college i was set for med school. I love nursing, i am also starting my msn and may teach a few hours a week in a community college skills lab. Now asking whether or not to do this job, i would say dont do it for money or because your friend want to. if you have the passion for the job, you will love it. Making a difference daily in peoples' lives is a special feeling. But it is tough, especailly when you start, and everyone has rough days. i love it, but you need to have it in you to really and trully enjoy the profession. Good Luck
  7. i really wish there were more schools that taught forensic nursing. I live near Chicago and there arent toomany options in the area. Also after starting class approx how long does it take to finish. Thanks girls for all your help!
  8. I am a nurse in an icu, i had my gallbladder out a few years back and HATE toradol IV, it burns sooo much! I would with it a lot as an antiinflammatory, but give it really slow because many many patients c/o about the burn. It needs to be given very slow and mare sure patient is aware of the impending sensation.
  9. I am a RN, just started working nights in neuro ICU this year. Does anyone have a problem working nights. I find that i sleep all the time now. I am only awake at night even on my days off and it ruining my life. Does this happen normally or am i having weird reaction to nights. I am literally nocturnal, no matter how hard i try to get up early i am grouchy and exhausted unless i sleep problem 10-12 a day!! I am thinking of leaving my job for a day shift position anywhere at allI have only been a nurse 2 years and am starting to get discouraged that i will never find the right position for me. Is anyone else feeling any of this??? Thanks for reading :uhoh21:

  11. Well i am not a new grad anymore. I have been a nurse for a year and half but i just switched to critical care and i had a 4 month orientation and that was just to handle 2 patients. all i have to say is stay in orientation as long as it takes for you to be comfortable. good luck!
  12. HELLO out there! Today at work on a busy Neuro ICU unit, a brand new resident sitting in chair was mistaken for a patients nurse. She quickly snapped that she was the doctor and stated that the confused physical therapist get her professionals right. The P.T. then continued to apologize for the mistake and that she didnt mean any offense by it. Now why would that be offensive? i thought we were all working on the same team, though a brand new Resident with no experince is upset to be compared to a nurse. I find this HIGHLY OFFENSIVE! I work just as hard and feel walked all over with attitudes like this.
