    CSUF EL-MSN 2013

hi guys! yeah... don't be discouraged, bennybop. we don't know yet! :-)
  5. I've been reading the latest posts about new grads being unable to find jobs... and have been hearing this for a few years now (growing worse, it seems.) There seems to be two stories: One where new grads quickly find jobs or at least within six months and another where new grads cannot find any jobs. What I see lacking though in these kinds of discussions is basic information such as the new grad's nursing program, degree, and location. My theory is that those who are having a difficult time finding a job either do not have a BSN/higher or the issue is location. Of course, the issue is not that simple, but I am curious. So here are my observations on what happened to the recent nursing graduates in my life... they all have BSNs and they are all currently employed. BTW, I'm not sure if this is crossing any privacy lines... I tried to keep it vague, but still factual. I'm just a student who would like to see data on what is really going on among new grads. New Grad Nurses who graduated within the last 5 years (2008-2013) Friend #1 Nursing Program: Accelerated BSN Location of Program: Southern CA Degree: BSN Employed Yes/No: Yes If Yes, where: S. CA #2 Nursing Program: Accelerated BSN Location of Program: S. CA Degree: BSN Employed Yes/No: Yes If Yes, where: S. CA #3 Nursing Program: N/A (don't know) Location of program: S. CA Degree: BSN Employed Yes/No: Yes If Yes, where: S. CA Friend #4 Nursing Program: Accelerated BSN Location of Program: PA Degree: BSN Employed Yes/No: Yes If Yes, where: S. CA What have you observed in terms of program, degree, location, employment from the new grad nurses in your life (including yourself, if applicable)? What patterns do you see?

    CSUF EL-MSN 2013

Hi bennybop! yay, another applicant... Mine is on the 15th too! For the interview, prepare for the typical questions... I'm sure allnurses will be a great resource. I really like how they will conduct one-on-one interviews in addition to a group interview/portion.

    CSUF EL-MSN 2013

Yep, I think we'll hear back through email. Have you seen any updates to your CSUF account (after you log in with your campus-wide ID)? Nothing seems updated there and I haven't received any emails from the school of nursing. I called SON to confirm if they received the application packet, but the person I talked to said they don't give out confirmations.

    HESI A2 - critical thinking?

This book (Fundamentals Success: A Q&A Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking) was recommended by several people here. It helped me get familiar or "used to" the way the questions are stated... The main strategy that the book goes into is to ask yourself before looking at the answer choices: Who is the client? What is the question asking? Then go through each choice and use the process of elimination. Btw, a little about the book itself... There's an introduction on what critical thinking is and the strategy. The main bulk of the book are practice questions divided into subject matter such as ethics, community nursing, medication administration, hygiene, Qs related to different body systems and more. They provide clear rationale for why each choice is wrong or right. It also comes with a CD with more practice questions.

    CSUF EL-MSN 2013

Oh, hi! I didn't see your reply until now.... Yes! The 2013 application and timeline seems so different from previous years... According to their website, I think we'll know whether we get an interview or not this month or in January, which will be here in no time. I should check out the post grad forum (I'm not sure if I even posted this thread in the right place, hehe..) I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like chatter from potential/current/former EL-MSN students at Fullerton has been close to nonexistent lately. Back to the interview... from what I read here, I think it will consist of an interactive, group exercise and answering the normal interview questions. This is actually my second round applying, and I'm glad I have a nursing interview under my belt. I remember repeatedly rehearsing my answers for potential questions, but the day of, I think I came across not as genuine or that I didn't even know what nursing is truly about. If I get another opportunity, hopefully I can speak with conviction yet be myself. No, I didn't apply to any other schools because of various factors. If I don't get in, I might apply to a school out of state where I've already cleared the pre-reqs with the admissions advisor, but I have to think about it some more. Are you waiting to hear back from other programs? There is actually a Yelp review I came across on CSUF by an EL-MSN student, haha, but hey... it was still something!

    CSUF EL-MSN 2013

Any fellow applicants to Cal State Fullerton's EL-MSN program for Fall 2013? I wasn't able to find any topics started for 2013, so I thought I would get one rolling... It would be nice to hear from some of you as we wait together! I'm also interested in hearing from current CSUF EL-MSN students and how you're doing one or two years in. What are the program's strengths and what are some areas of improvement? I haven't been able to find too much information.. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.. Thanks!

    HESI A2 with Critical Thinking

Hi. Thanks for posting this :)How many questions is the critical thinking section only? I read that's it is 25 questions... Was that true when you took it?If every choice is correct, do you get partial points for answers that would have been the "next best answer"? (hope that makes sense)I'm studying out of the Fundamentals book... For those who studied out of that book, are there sections I should focus on more?Do I need to know lab ranges?Thank you in advance...
