Wanted to try the "trick"....she took boards yesterday......jan

My daughter said she did not register through the pearsonvue website. She said she spoke with someone on the phone, at least that's the way I took it. Is is possible a person can register on the site "after" taking the boards, then try the "trick"? Thanks.........jan

I just got a call from her........she got all 265 questions. When she took boards for the lpn, she also got every question. One friend's computer shutdown after 76 questions....she passed. Another friend shutdown at 111....she didn't make it. I understand that you can go up and down on a scale when you take the boards nowadays. I'm a LPN, but never took the test on computers. So, since she still has 1.5 hours to go....do you think she may fail it? Thanks...........jan

At this very moment, my daughter is testing for her RN state license. She has 6 hours to complete the test. I'm sitting here anxiously waiting for her to call because I know how it was when see took the LPN test. She came out crying, but passed a week later. Does anyone know how many questions are on the test? As I type this, she has 2 more hours to go. Thanks.........jan

Lpn here. I work in a doctors office. A pt. called wanting shot record concerning HEP b. I told her there was nothing in the chart about her ever getting one at our office. This pt's mom was livid. She insisited the girl had hep b at our office. Here's the situation. We had a doctor who practiced up til the age of 85. He was this girls doc. I mentioned to the girl that the doc may have forgotten to chart that he gave her a hep B. The key word here is forgotten. I spoke to my office manager who said I may be liable because I told the girl the doctor may have forgotton. HOW??? And what consequences will I have to endure? The doctor is now 90. The mother of the pt. said she was going to call the doctors home and tell him I said he may have forgotten to chart it (which I seriously doubt). The office manager called the doctors wife and told her this disgruntled mom may call. When I talked to the girl the other day, I suggested that she get a titer, which she agreed. Is my mouth gonna get me in trouble for saying the doctor may have forgotten? TIA...............jan

I'm so proud of you for intervening. I would have been the one to have pounced in her face, and almost dared her to punch me or open her mouth......but that's just the way I am. I'm no spring chick (53), but I cannot stand to see a grown adult verbally/physically abuse any children........jan

My daughter and I were at books-a-million last weekend. The 2 of us are LPN's. She just got a job at the local hospital and was looking for 'dummy' books to go over before starting her new job. She happened to strike up a conversation with another patron going through the nsg books. The lady she spoke to was going to take her Boards the next day and was trying to find any books to help her. This is a no-no. You cannot cram at the last minute, either you know it or you don't. You may want to review the subjects you find the hardest to comprehend. Good luck.............jan

My daughter will be starting at the hospital as a LPN. She has "homework" that includes dosage calculations. I've been out of nursing school for 15 years. She's been out for 1 year and is having problems remembering dosages. Anyone know a good site that will allow a nurse to put in crucial numbers and come up with an answer? Here's a couple of examples: Order: Pronestyl 250 mg IV in 500cc D5W at 4mg/hr. What is the flow rate in ml/hr? Order: Dobutamine 250mg IV in 250ml D5W to infuse at 5mcg/kg/min. The patient weighs 85 kgs. I just can't remember how to set these up. Any help on pointing us to a good site would be greatly appreciated..........jan

My name is jan. I'm the original poster. I'm have been an active practicing LPN since 1993. I can't really go into detail why I asked that original question, but the answers here have convinced me that calling yourself a nurse when you're not........is a big NO-NO!!! Is there anywhere a person can go online to see the law side of it?.........jan

Is it ok for someone to work as a nurse without a license as long as they work directly under a doctor/another nurse? Thanks............jan

Here's one small story that had a terrific ending: I'm 52 yo and have been in nursing for 12 years (yep, got a late start). My youngest daughter decided she wanted to follow in mom's footsteps so she spent a year in the local LPN program. I didn't really want her to do this, but she insisted. So, at the tender age of 21 she started the year long stress course. The boards were last October. Most of her fellow nursemates took the test before her. I believe (not sure) she was the very last one scheduled for the actual test. I drove to the town where she was at because we planned a big shopping spree immediately after the test. Her nursemates informed her they had between 85-125 questions before their computers kicked off. I waited and waited and waited for her to meet me. Thinking the test would take around 3 hours, when the 4th hour kicked in I started becoming concerned. Then, out of nowhere, she got in my vehicle. I asked how it went, and she said, "I don't want to talk about it." Come to find out, she had ALL 205 (maximum questions for the LPN tests) questions on the test. She said she started "freaking" after question #125 because all she could think about was how her fellow nursemates had less than 125 before the computer kicked off. Needless to say, she started crying thinking the entire year was down the drain. I'm sitting there in the car trying to give her words of encouragement, but I was thinking the same thing.........she'd failed. The following Friday I received a call at work from my daughter. I was expecting it because that was the day she would find out. The conversation began as, "Hi mom, this is Stacy......LPN!!!" I screamed and a couple of co-workers ran to see what was wrong with me. One of my fellow nurses started crying along with me. So, to make a long story short............it doesn't matter if you have 85 or 205 questions on the boards, YOU CAN STILL PASS!!!!
