Yale GEPN Applicants 2013
Congratulations feminista!!! It's a hard choice between UCSF and Yale, I feel you... One strategy which might work is that accept the offer from UCSF (pay the deposit if they have one) and then wait to see what happens with Yale. If you get into Yale, you could accept Yale's offer and write to UCSF and let them know you won't be accepting their offer, and if you don't get into Yale, UCSF it is. Hope this helps, and good luck!

No, I'm Not a Beauty Shop!
You did the right thing - you shouldn't feel bad at all, I would have done the same thing in your place. Go home, and then somebody can help you with the earrings.

Anybody interested in meeting for a drink/meal after the interviews on January 24 or 25?

Yale GEPN Applicants 2013
Hi atomicgirl, Yale is my top choice, and the only school where I applied to. It's definitely where I'd want to be for the next few years and the campus, resources and faculty sound pretty awesome. I like Yale's proximity to NYC and the clinical resources shared with the medical and public health school, and the highly-rated graduate and PhD programs. And reaching New Haven a few days early is a good idea - January weather in CT is pretty unpredictable! I have no idea how interviewers will assess candidates this year, and this is my first graduate school interview, so I'm excited and nervous. It should all be for the best for all of us I hope!

Hi atomicgirl, I'm interviewing on Jan 25 for peds. Are you staying in new haven overnight? Are we supposed to research our interviewer and discuss our common interests?

Thanks for your insight hi616! All the best with your other applications and we'll keep our fingers crossed that you get into the other places you applied into. To add to your observations, I think another area that Yale highly values in its applicants is some sort of research background in healthcare or science, as well as some sort of community or volunteer nursing/clinical experience. As mentioned in one of the previous posts, I too felt that Yale's method of choosing applicants is less clear-cut, and I feel a great deal of weight is placed on the application essay so it's important to emphasize how you have grown as a person through the research, volunteer experiences and literally how being an NP might help you make a difference in the world. Historically, Yale's Divinity, Management, Medicine and Law schools have all emphasized the role of their graduates in being able to make a difference to low-income and under-resourced communities across the nation and the world, and I feel Yale Nursing is looking for some of the same qualities in its applicants as well. By being able to choose from such a diverse and qualified applicant pool, Yale, and indeed most of the top universities, are looking for people who are motivated to give back to their communities and are service-minded, especially in fields like medicine and nursing, where care-providers have a very direct impact on the populations they serve. All best and good luck!

Yale GEPN Applicants 2013
Thanks hi616, I'll ask my recommender to do that - it's just so weird when you know it's there somewhere and yet it isn't.... oh well. Btw if you don't mind me asking, what specialty are you applying for? I'm applying for the Pediatric NP, and I have no idea how competitive it is, or anybody else who is applying to it on these forums. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

Yale GEPN Applicants 2013
Hi everyone! So I sent in my recommendations and transcript in the single packet as instructed, and on the application website it's showing that they have received everything except one of my recommendations. It's really frustrating since I know I sent all three of my LORs in the same packet and it would be really strange if the admissions office received just two... Has anybody experienced anything of this sort yet? I emailed the office, but received the generic reply that everything is still being processed and all materials will be updated by the end of the week. I'm kind of not wanting to call their office and freak out just yet, but it's so nerve-wracking to not know what happened to the last LOR. Have all of you guys gotten in your materials already and your checklist completed? Would much appreciate any suggestions or advice on how to deal with this... Thanks so much and hope everyone's having a great week!

Hi JustD16, to answer your question - I don't think the status of recommenders change even after they send the recommendations in, but you can call/email the admissions office to check that they've received it. Also, I think the reason they want applicants to upload transcripts is that sometimes the official transcripts take time to be all uploaded digitally into the applicants' files and having unofficial transcripts helps the committee get to work faster on processing applications. My school actually had a page where I could get a list of my classes and grades, and I saved this page as a PDF and uploaded it as an unofficial transcript. In fact, if you have any additional questions let me know and I can ask the YSN admissions officer tomorrow when they visit my school. All best, and can't wait to be done with the applications!

Hi I'm also applying to the 2013 GEPN program at Yale and according to admissions, last year about 400 people applied, 200 got called for the interview, 140 were accepted, and around 90 enrolled. It's quite a challenging program and all the best to you guys!
