Tacoma Community College 2016/2017
Hi there. I'm Winter Quarter as well. Just want to make sure you're aware that 6th quarter does go through the Summer 2018. We graduate in August. My friend just went through this at TCC, started Winter 2015, graduated August 2016. Our preceptorship runs throught Summer 2018. I don't believe it has changed.

Enjoyed meeting twenty-two of you last night at the "meet and greet" at Pierce. :) Well, I wasn't able to meet every person, but I'm glad our questions were answered. And now, we wait. :)

Yes, I am going. Looking forward to meeting everyone. :)

I'm sure I'll end up going. I do want to meet the members of our cohort. I emailed our new nursing director back and told her I'd likely have questions by next week, but for now, me and some of my peers would like to know why it was decided by former students that they will be omitting summer quarter. I expressed that many of us applied to Pierce's Nursing Program because they continued on through summer quarter. I did this for my pre-reqs as well. I told her that starting in Fall quarter is a disappointment, but omitting summer quarter is even moreso. She wrote me back this morning and said the decision was not solely based on former students input, but rather the lack of avaiable instructors. I wish she would have mentioned that in "good news" email we all received a few days ago. (It wasn't "good news" for most of us that we'd be starting later than Spring nor omitting summer quarter.) Anyway, just wanted to share that with everyone in case you may have planned on asking that at the meet and greet. Are you ladies (or gents) planning on getting dressed up for the meet and greet? I want to be comfortable and will likely dress down a step from business casual. Your thoughts?

I got another email from the new director of nursing. I think we all got one with her asking if we all got her letter yet and if our addresses were correct. I replied that I received mine yesterday and that my address is correct. She wrote back asking if I was coming next Wednesday to the meet and greet. She also asked if I had any questions for her or Stania. I have yet to reply. Are you folks going to attend?

Okay, I figured it out. It's a private group page only for our cohort on Facebook. Yay! Pierce College Class Of 2017 Nursing Cohort

Pierce Wa Nursing Program
Working on making a Facebook page for our cohort. I don't want it attached to my personal page so I need to do a little more research on making that happen. 'Pierce College Class Of 2017 Nursing Cohort' will likely be the name of the closed group page.

I took all my classes for my ASN/DTA to directly transfer to UW Tacoma. I'm ready to roll once I graduate Pierce with my ADN. Today's news was unfortunate. I purposefully applied to Pierce because I liked that they continued on through Summer quarter. I took all my pre-req's straight through Summer quarter at Pierce as well because I wanted to finish in a timely manner. I prefer fast track courses. Did the same with earning my CNA certificate years ago. Attended a three week course, versus a three month one. I was thinking about making a Pierce College 2017 Facebook page for our cohort, now that we know our start and finish date. It's a great way for us all to communicate with one another. I'm not sure if it's too soon, but am willing to make the page whenever everyone is ready.

I just sent an email to the Dean. I included in it the two emails I sent to our advisor this morning. I expressed OUR concerns as a group that we are being kept in the dark as to why there's such a huge delay and asked why there may possibly be a Fall start. I told him we all understand a three month delay, since a new nursing director was hired, but a fall start, a nine almost ten month delay seems ridiculous. Why would such a delay be necessary? That, again, is the gist of my questions. Will keep you posted. angieyu37 - I am sorry that you (likely) didn't get in. I would have felt bad not sharing the information I received but I also feel bad having to share the news here. You may very well be much closer down the list than I was, so don't give up hope. Oftentimes TCC will go 10-20 down the list after the lottery seats are declined by those chosen. :)

She wrote me back and said that our new director did mail us a letter late last week. The meet and greet is 2/11 from 4:30-6:00 pm. The nursing department is not the one deciding when our program will start. She said it is the executive team. She said that she and others in the department are just as anxious to hear when they'll be starting the program. I'm paraphrasing. Loved reading that she told you to be back by the end of March. I'm still holding out hope on a March 29, Spring quarter start. I jokingly keep telling my family and friends that I need to start because I'm getting dumber by the day. hahahahaha! Guess I will see you ladies next Wednesday!

I called TCC and learned that they have contacted everyone drawn and the alternates for now for Spring full and part time. I'm sure they'll have people decline their spots, they're given ten days to accept a seat, so certainly they'll be contacting a few further down the list.

I sent our advisor at Pierce a longgg email (about thirty minutes ago) asking many questions. I want to know why we are all being kept in the dark. That's the jist of what I asked. I told her the communication is lacking completely and that concerns me. I will let everyone know what I learn when she writes me back.

When I called and talked to Theresa at 9:15 am this morning she repeated my name to me and said she didn't know the status of my result whether I got in or not. Tiffany, did she talk to Theresa or the other gal?

I checked yesterday around 1 pm and they hadn't done it. Brandie just text me and told me to look at my email. Nothing yet. Looks like after they verify we will get that email... or not. :)

Theresa at TCC told me she thought the lottery will be held the 4th. I'm grateful that Pierce has selected me to be part of their next cohort, however, it is extremely challenging to feel confident that the new director on board might have an agenda the current and future student nurses and instructors might not find favorable. Why is there such a delay? I asked specifically at our interviews if there was going to be a lot of changes made to the program with the new director and all said, "no". They said that changes might happen here and there, but the program will continue on as is. If this is true, why such a HUGE delay in starting? Spring should be ample to get us in there and going. I don't want to wait until Fall. I'm just being honest, not a spoiled brat. We were supposed to start this month, Winter quarter 2015. I think delaying until Spring is acceptable, however, Fall, I'm not at all pleased. I'm ready to go! It will be a hard decision to make if I am drawn in the TCC lottery for Spring. I want to attend Pierce, as do many others that were selected and have put in to be in the TCC lottery for Spring Quarter. Pierce may be losing some very good, hand selected candidates due to their postponement of their 2015 cohort start.

I am so frustrated. Eager to get started. I know we are blessed to have earned a seat at Pierce when their program does start, but it's still discouraging to see/hear that the professors and the higher ups are having so many problems right now. This concerns me for when we do actually start. Will the program be ran the same way? A constant cluster? Yikes.

The school was closed last week for the holiday. :/ I borrowed Brandie's medical terminology book and am doing it on my own. I'm on chapter 4 and will start again after the New Years.

Received an email today from our advisor. She says they still don't know when the program will start next year. Bummer! She also said she wasn't sure when they would be mailing out official letters of acceptance.

Very cool for you! I found out that my work WILL help pay for nursing school. I don't have an FTE so the rumor was, due to budget cuts, those of us on call/per diem were S.O.L. BUT, the lady emailed me back saying this was not true. I am eligible for scholarship monies. I have to apply etc., but was relieved to know I'm still eligible. I still have to file FAFSA and for DOE loans. It's a bummer but I will do whatever I gotta do to survive and pay for nursing school. (That could SO be taken the wrong way, lol jk!) Pierce College's Nursing Program has always continued on through summer quarter. I, like you, don't want a break during the summer months. I'm getting more and more excited. My good friend, Brandie, starts at TCC January 5, and I'm openly envious of her. Ha! But, everything happens for a reason, right? My husband was recently hurt pretty severely at his job and needs to have surgery on his shoulder in January 2015. He'll be off work a month or two followed by several months of physical therapy. Good thing I will be home and able to care for him during his recovery. I just don't want our program to start Fall 2015.

Sweet... this thread is now in Washington State's forum. I sent our advisor an email yesterday asking when we might receive official letters of acceptance and if they're any closer to announcing an official start date. (She didn't reply yet.) I had to apply to financial aid a "Petition for a Second Degree" and they asked if I had received my letter of acceptance. I told them no, but they are hiring a new DON and hopefully we'll get a letter soon. When filling out a "Petition for a Second Degree" they ask you to have your advisor fill out their second page of the petition which is a quarterly education plan, which our advisor filled out for me. On this form, the first quarter she started with was Spring 2015, and the last was Summer 2016. Not sure if this is when the program is set to start or not. I'm praying that it is. :) I was surprised that I had to file a Petition for a Second Degree through Financial Aid. However, since I earned my Associates in Pre-Nursing, they said all students going for another degree must file a petition, even those that are transferring in have to. Just a heads up for those of you that got in the nursing program like me, you might want to call/email financial aid and see if you have to do the same.

I wonder how we can get a moderator here to move this thread to Washington State's Forum? We are discussing Pierce College Puyallup's Nursing Program, located in Puyallup, Washington. :)
