You definitely have a chance. Admission boards look at the whole picture and if you explain it in the personal statement, they will most likely understand that the low GPA was from all those years ago

The only one I know of is APU, but I did not look into other ones. You're going to have to do your own research and look at each individual program's admission requirements page to see if they will consider applicants under 3.0. What you can do to boost your chances is score VERY good on the GRE (which will only help you with schools that require GRE), get healthcare experience (EMT, phlebotomy, CNA, etc), volunteer, more than 1 language, great personal statement, great rec letters, etc. Basically, any other factor that they will consider, you must excel in to compensate for your low GPA. Another route you can go to is the physician assistant route. I know a lot consider applicants as low as 2.5, however those programs usually require a significant amount of healthcare experience. And no, you will not find any online programs for direct entry.

I got into Azusa Pacific University's direct entry FNP program in California with a 3.15 GPA , 1 yr of EMT, and a lot of volunteer experience, so I'm sure you'll be ok. APU was the only program I applied to. I was also informed by the interviewer that because I was a minority (male), that it gave me a better chance at getting in.

Is there anyone who has opened their own clinic that can give me an idea on how difficult it is to do so? How long were you in the planning stage before you opened one? What kind of experience did you have before doing so? How much did it cost? Pros? Cons? Any advice? Any information would be helpful!

I was accepted into Azusa Pacific University's direct entry FNP program. They don't offer a ACNP specialty at that university. Does anyone know how long it would take for to complete a post-masters in ACNP?

I was just accepted into a direct entry FNP program, but I previously thought that FNP's can work in hospital settings too, not just primary care. Now I'm looking through the forums and I'm getting the impression that it is becoming less and less common for a FNP to work in the hospital. Should I have gone into ACNP and is there a hope for me to work in the hospital?

@hchumbar Overall gpa, prerequisite gpa, healthcare experience, military, faith based community service, degree in a biological science, volunteer experience, volunteer experience outside the country, attending the pre-advising interview. That's all I remember on the list, but there was more. She said a score of 31 pts is competitive. I think I got a 33 or 35, I forget. The total possible was around 45.

@yanyan88 Isn't your science gpa above 3.0 if you have all A's except 2 C's? The adviser just discussed my GPA, went over the program, and asked me a few questions. She also did not have time to give me the tour because she had another appointment with another applicant, but she did ask one of the workers there to give me a tour.

It is a christian based school, but graduates are not required to attend. However there is a class called Christian Formation for Holistic Care that everyone does have to take in the 3rd semester.

@dave5673 I'm not sure. I emailed them and asked what their average cumulative and pre-req gpa was and that was the response I got. I'm assuming that is the pre-req gpa because they're usually a little higher. @hchumbar I definitely do not think it will hurt your chances! Though I don't know how much it will help since you don't have very many hours. For the Monrovia location, over 50 applicants received interviews. The average gpa ranges from 3.5-4.0. Their meeting to make final decisions will be on August 21st, and you will hear back from them within 2 weeks of that (September 4).

I think the San Diego campus was told that they would have a decision in August and the Azusa campus said the decisions would be made in September because the campus is closed for a few weeks in August.

This is the only school I'm applying to for the summer cycle, but I might apply to other schools in the Fall if I don't get into this program.
