NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry
Hi Simplybliss, Sorry I didn't respond sooner...haven't checked into All Nurses in a while! My undergrad GPA was nothing stellar, a 3.1. I was a health policy major from a decent school but I graduated 15 years ago! So, I have 15 years of work and life experience. I do have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs, but honestly, I believe I got accepted because I'm an "older" applicant with numerous years of work and life experience and I'd like to believe I had quite a strong essay that helped "set me apart" (at least I hope so, lol!) If it helps, I never worked in the health field nor have I ever volunteered in that capacity despite holding a degree in Health Policy. I spent my years working in institutional finance and corporate communications. I don't think NYU wants that typical nursing applicant, they seem to be looking for people from different walks of life. Hope that helps!! Best of luck!

NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry
So far NYU is great! If it helps, my essay was actually about 700 words, but I was able to manipulate it to fit perfectly on the one page of the application supplement. Definitely focus on your essay and obtaining a great recommendation. My undergrad (BS in Health Policy) was decent but nothing stellar either (about 3.1). My pre-reqs were a 4.0. But I still think it was the essay and my recommendation that got me in. I also have about 15 years of work experience (yes, I'm a bit older, lol graduated college in 1998). I chose to send in only 1 recommendation and that came from a client of mine. Again, I think NYU is looking for a well-rounded person...a person with life or work experience, or just something different. I remember there was an applicant on the Spring 2013 AllNurses page who had a 4.0 undergrad and 4.0 in pre-reqs and she was rejected! So, its not all in the grades! Write a great essay :)

NYU ABSN Fall 2013 Entry
Good luck to all the applicants! I applied for the Spring 2013 ABSN program and was accepted in early November 2012. My situation is a little bit different though because I have a few pre-reqs to still complete which I'm doing now at NYU (in my case, I'm now considered a "regular" nursing student until I finish my pre-reqs, then I transition into the "accelerated" BSN program for Fall 2013). So, I will be joining those of you that chose NYU for this Fall!! Not sure if I can offer any help or insight, but I'd be happy to answer any questions I can about the application process as I just went through it, thankfully with success, yeah! Best of luck :)

Hopefulapplicant - congrats!! Perhaps I'll see you in January in the pre-req classes! What ones do you have to take? I will be taking Chem and Microbio and then probably A&P in the summer. Also, congrats to everyone else as well!!

Yam582 - I'm in the same situation as you. I too was accepted but have to take a few pre-reqs at NYU. Here's what they told me...I'm starting in January but am only going to take micro and chem and then in the summer I will take A&P. From what I understood from my conversation with them is that I am in the accelerated program however I will not start the nursing courses until September as they only allow you to start in Jan or Sept. There are no summer starts and because of that I decided not to overload myself with 3 heavy sciences when it's not necessary. In other words there is no rush to squeeze them all into one semester. So, Long story short...you are in the accelerated program and once you complete the pre-reqs you just join the next starting cohort, which again is only in Sept or Jan.

svdbygrc2k9 - I'm way out in Suffolk County, Smithtown area. I'm hoping the class schedules and train schedules will coincide nicely...keeping my fingers crossed! By the way, I just put in a request to "join" the facebook page you set up :) Anyone know what our next step is with orientation and registration? I paid my deposit but haven't heard anything yet.

BayArea510 - I used to do the commute for several years when I worked full-time in NYC. My roundtrip commute back then door-to-door was 5 hours. Needless-to-say, once I realized how much time I was spending on the train, I quit my job! I'm not worried about the commute now though, I just hope I'm there enough for my kids and husband

svdbygrc2k9 - I will be commuting from LI too! My trip will be about 1hr30mins EACH way. Hope I survive!

NYU ABSN Spring 2013
Hopeful applicant- I applied on 9/30 and was in the priority pool. Despite that, my Albert page said I was "regular Decision" so I called them about that. They told me the system doesn't have a "priority" tag to put in Albert system. The "regular" tag is just by default. Don't worry, if you applied by 10/1 you should be good! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I got in today too!! I got the email at 12:04 EST :)

NYU ABSN Spring 2013
hopefulapplicant - yes, the guy mentioned it is "difficult" because we are placed in the same pool of applicants that have completed all their pre-reqs already. Not that I'd expect to be in a separate pool, but I was hoping they would view my other credentials (past work history and experience etc) more heavily since they wouldn't be able to accurately judge me based on only the few pre-reqs that I've taken (even though they are all A's). Oh well, I guess we just have to wait and see! I'm guessing every Tuesday and Thursday I'm going to have my fingers crossed hoping for an email. Best of luck to you!

NYU ABSN Spring 2013
ScentlessApprentice that is great to hear! Congratulations!! I too am taking pre-reqs now however I will still need to take 3 more and have applied under the understanding that I could take those remaining ones at NYU. I hope that hasn't hindered my chances of getting accepted. My undergrad GPA was only a 3.05 but all my pre-reqs are A's. I graduated with a degree in health policy but went into finance for several years and then financial and healthcare communications (yes, I'm a bit older! Just turned 36, ugh!) Anyway, thanks for sharing your details. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed but I do remember the guy at the open house saying the route I'm hoping to take at NYU is very difficult to get into

Did anyone apply without having all the pre-reqs completed?

Stony Brook Accelerated BSN Class of 2014
Thanks for the response Paco-RN! I just emailed the nursing admissions department. I'm never one to look for a shortcut but I'd hate to wait another entire year before applying...I'm getting up there in age, 36 now, and don't want to delay any further!!

Stony Brook Accelerated BSN Class of 2014
Hi everyone! I'm considering applying to the basic/2 year program at SBU this January 2013 and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were regarding the requirement that you must have 3 of the 5 science pre-reqs completed by application time. I'm hoping there is some flexibility there! At the time of application, I will have Stats, Lifespan, Anat I and the "other" science completed (all of which I received A's in). I am currently registered to take Anat II and Microbio starting in January and taking a summer session for the Chem. I will have completed all pre-req work prior to the September start date. I just won't have the 3 out of 5 sciences at application time. I'm thinking of applying anyway because I'd hate to wait an entire year to apply!!! Any thoughts????

Where did you guys hear that they were sending out decisions this week???? When I called last week I was told mid-November but nothing specific. So exciting!

NYU ABSN Spring 2013
One more thing...has anyone heard anything good about NYUs program? I just came across a bunch of postings from this summer (ABSN Fall 2012 thread) and a couple of people currently in the program bashed NYU and the nursing program! A little unnerving...

NYU ABSN Spring 2013
Hi all, I too am applying for the ABSN Spring 2013 program. I am planning on submitting all my paperwork and application this week! evysz, I too don't have amazing undergrad grades...I finished with a 3.05 but so far my pre-reqs are all A's. But I am applying without having all of my pre-reqs done. My story is a bit different in that I graduated with a BS in Health Policy back in 1998! So, I'm an "older" applicant. Does anyone know if NYU begins to look at the applications after 10/1/12 or do they review them if they come in earlier??? Also, anyone willing to share the years they graduated college? I'm curious to know if I'm really too old or just in the middle
