  1. I feel you have every right to include a residents name in your documentation. If he/she said something that he is worried about then maybe they need to be more careful what they say. If this resident is confrontational it should be reported to your unit director, and someone in charge needs to be aware of this residents unprofessional behavior. If you are uncomfortable with this, your facility should have a way to leave complaints anonymously. If he is yelling and using profanity with the other staff, who knows when this behavior will be directed or at the least witnessed by a patient or their family. Just documenting the resident said would be enough as well because they would be able to figure out who was there that night.
  2. I am a currently licensed LPN working in PA and I am interested in furthering my education. I now work in a hospital on a med-surg, oncology floor. I have four years of experience. I would be interested in using an online only source because I need to work full time, and I have a 6 year old. Does anyone know of any credible schools on line that they would recommend trying? Also if I am going to complete an RN program would it be more beneficial to go just for the ASN or just finish it all and go straight through to my BSN? Partial tuition reimbursement is available through my job if I continue to work for them. This is not a problem because I like my job and do not intend to leave at this time. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
  3. This is a very hard situation to be in, but knowing about it you have to report it. Is there a possible way to report it anonymously? If you do it that way, they may find you liable for knowing about it and not acting sooner. This is most definitely a conflict of interest, and really the only option you have is reporting it. You may want to secure another job before doing so that way you are not left without work. Good luck
  4. Every last one of us has made a mistake and been extremely upset by it. You did everything else by the book, you had a doctor look at the patient, you filed an incident report. The fact that you feel bad shows your true potential of being a good nurse, not that you made a mistake. I bet you won't forget the tourniquet again! We are human, and have stressful busy jobs. Try not to be so hard on yourself, and good luck.
