  1. Hi, My application was received on May 16th (2 months ago). It says they are still waiting for the Transcript Validation Form to be received. I think that means they are waiting on my University to validate my transcripts are legit? Anyway, maybe I should take the NCLEX now if I'm ready? Then do the VSC after passing that and hearing back about the CES. I am just anxious to get my career rolling in the US and would prefer to not have any unnecessary delays along the way. I do realize that a job offer might not come instantly, but, I want to be prepared as if it will.
  2. Hello, recent RN grad in Canada looking to work in the US. My CES application is under review with CGFNS. This can take up to 6 months from what I've been told. Should I go ahead and send in the Visa Screen application while I wait to hear about the credentials review? Or do I have to have an answer before doing the Visa Screen? How long does it approximately take to get a response on the Visa Screen and do you think it's worth it to pay the $500 for the Expedited Review Service (5 days response). Thanks in advance for any help.
  3. Has anyone heard or, or know of, someone who has been accepted into a CRNA program with a 2.7 overall GPA? I know this is rather low for an extremely competitive field of study, but, it is what it is. I struggled to find the proper way to study my first 2 years after being out of school for over 10 (I didn't even graduate high school, I had to go back to finish my equivalency). My last 2 years have been much improved with a 3.4 GPA during that time (all 4 years of University I have maintained full time employment in the OR as a Health Care Aide). Many graduate programs in Canada only consider your last 2 years of your degree, but, that doesn't seem to be the case for most American schools and CRNA isn't even an option in Canada that I am aware of. I am still a long way from even applying to schools. I don't write my Canadian exams until June, and then I'll obviously have to pass my American exams, get a job in an ICU in the US (my husband is American so immigrating will hopefully go relatively smooth) and build up a couple years of experience in that environment. I have read a number of helpful posts on these forums about obtaining a CCRN, taking some grad level courses, shadowing, etc, and those have all been very helpful. I am just now learning how most Universities look for a min GPA of 3.0 and most applicants have higher, so, this news has been quite a kick to the gut tonight. I am a fighter though and have been through much worse things in my life so I am definitely not ready to give up. If anyone has any advice or helpful info I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading.
  4. Thanks again for the info. :)
  5. Thanks for the reply. :) Just to be sure...you're saying that I can work without a GC as long as I have a job offer, Visa Screen Cert, passed the NCLEX and met the state requirements? If so, that's great to hear. Thank you for the reply. :)
  6. Hello all! :) I am currently in my final year of Nursing school and I am interested in immigrating to the U.S. Why? I want to continue my education and go on for my Master's degree in Nurse Anesthesia (currently not offered in Canada) and eventually work and live in the U.S. I would like to work for a couple of years before going on for my Masters (I need critical care experience before applying to the program), so, ideally I would like to move to the U.S. after completing my Bachelor's and passing the NCLEX, etc and begin working as an RN. From the little research I've done, it seems there may be quite the backup for working visas in the US. Is there anyone from Canada who has recently moved to the States and begun working as a nurse? If so, any information from your experiences would be greatly appreciated. I am engaged to a U.S. citizen, but, he has been living with me in Canada, as a permanent resident here, for 4 years. So, I guess we could always go that immigration route if it was faster. I would prefer whichever route is faster to getting a job after finishing my Bachelor's so I can hopefully get the experience I will need to move on into the Nurse Anesthetist program. Thanks for any and all help! Cheers
