  1. In my Health Assessment class, we have a community assignment to do. We have to make a home visit and do an assessment (all we have to do is ask questions, read body language, etc. NOT a physical assessment). I was wondering if anyone else has had to do this? It just makes me nervous- the idea of going to a mostly complete stranger's home. They recommend against using friends or family due to the personal questions you have to ask. I guess I just want to know if anyone has ever had to do this and if you have any advice for the nerves!
  2. I chose to do an ADN program because it is the most convenient and best option for me. In my area, you can do an RN-BSN program in 1.5 years, so after 3.5 years I'll have a bachelors degree, while it may take 4 or 5 years to get a straight BSN. ADN will allow me to start working as a nurse in 2 years, and then I can go back to get my bachelors while still working. I think that the path I chose is a good option for me, but it all depends on what you want. Some people find that they never actually end up going back to continue education like they planned (life happens) so getting a straight bachelors could be a good idea. I plan to work in a hospital until I get a BSN and MSN so the differences in treatment won't be much of an issue (an RN is an RN is an RN on the floor)
  3. The one year required experience is really important. Honestly I'd say to do whichever is best for you, you may want to go fast but can you actually handle that? Do you have a family or want to start one? Either option will most likely require one year of experience at the minimum. Think about it. Do you want a NP fresh out of school with absolutely no experience outside of clinicals? I know you want to start working in your dream job today, but taking it slower may be a better bet so you'll be a better NP. Just my two cents :)
  4. I just had my orientation today :) I'm very excited and also nervous, but I did not feel like I would be thrown in the water by myself. They made sure to let us know about the student resources for any help you might need. My classes start on the 25th, so I'm a little later than most.
  5. Necrotizing fasciitis. I could say it all day long with a big smile on my face.
