Is Becoming A NP Worth It?
I was at a conference and there was a speaker that is a nurse. He was supporting getting lifts on every bed because a nurse lifts about 1,000LBS in one shift!!!!!!!!!!! (I can see with moving beds, transferring patients, turning patients). He hurt his back on the job and now is unable to practice bedside nursing so he went back to business school and works in the medical equipment business.... (great speaker!!! Eye opening)

Is it worth it?
The other thing is that when an RN gets out of a hospital to a "less taxing" job, the pay is "less". I keep having the same concerns. I am also looking at a WHNP program. I want to further my education. I am going on the thoughts that when I do get my WHNP degree, I could use it in private practice, education, or research. Am I dreaming????? Thoughts

Labor and delivery-hypothermia
We are doing a QI project on hypothermia in the or. We are trying to see where the breakdown is, (ie. anesthesia not using warming blankets, rn's not warming the pt before surgery). Any thoughts? We do not use warmed fluids. Insights?

Labor and delivery-hypothermia
How long after the delivery was the temp taken? axillary or rectal? How about for mom oral or tympanic? I did have an experience once that the mom's temp was low normal and the babies temp was 94 rectal when going to the nursery after a c/s. Same thing, baby did fine warming up and blood sugars. It was freaky. Baby was fine throughout stay. Still stumped by that one.

What about Walden university? They have an FNpractitioner. It is all on line and the application is free!!! They will even obtain your transcripts. .. I was looking into Walden if I don't get into the 140 class. They order your books and everything. I know someone going for IT and she loves it.

Hypothermia in the Recovery room.
It could have been a low temp but it is common to shake because of the anesthesia as well as your body's hormones regulating.

Hypothermia in the Recovery room.
Ladies and Gentleman, I have been looking at our hypothermia in the recovery area. We go by the AORN governing body. Our policy is that if we have a patient that has a temp 96.8 or lower active warming needs to occur (warming blanket) and then need to get a temp of 98 and remain 98 for a half our after active warming is discontinued before we are able to transfer our patient to Maternity. I was just wondering what you do in your facility? What evidence based practices are you using to support your policy? Do you use active warming on all C/S patients? Do you warm your fluids? Talk to me oh wise ones............

Hello. I didn't see this thread until after I started a similar thread. I had applied originally for the June Frontier Bound, but I just transferred my file to apply to the August 140 class. I have been following the class 139 thread and it has been nerve racking looking everyday for a response of yes or no!! So here I go again!! I am applying for the WHNP program. I live in Pennsylvania. Do you all work full time or part time/ if you work? If so are you cutting back hours? I am excited!!! I am glad I found you ladies!!!!!

Hello. Is there anyone out there that applied to the August Frontier Bound class 140? I was following the 139 class of the June Frontier Bound but I needed to transfer to the 140 class. So now I am seeing if there is anyone out there that would want to suffer together awaiting the answer of yes or no?! Ugh. Good luck everyone!!!!! Hope to meet someday face to face at Frontier Bound in August in Kentucky:nailbiting:!!!

I was interested in WHNP just because I didn't want to do all of the on call. I also want to have different options to care for all life span.
