  1. I am a orthopedic nurse with 1 1/2 yrs nursing experience. I am unhappy with bedside nursing and interested in getting into case management. A university nearby is offering a intro to Case Mgmt class that meets for 4 mondays. They also offer in fall/sping a class to prepare you for the CCM exam. Would it be possible to go towards case management with 1 1/2 yrs nursing experience? I am just looking for a change of scenery and very interested in the paperwork aspect of nursing! Any comments/suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks! :)
  2. Hey guys....I'm a new ortho nurse....just graduated in Dec. 2003. I've got a question about Stryker drains. We sometimes get patients post op with these. What is the basic protocol? I know you start reinfusion of RBC's 4 hrs after collection begins and you must transfuse within 6 hrs. What I'm wondering is as soon as you transfuse your first 250 cc or more....do you begin the 4 hr collection of blood in the drain again and tranfuse the second amount within 6 hrs?? I'm just confused and would appreciate any more information on these type of drains! Thanks! :)
  3. I also graduated in Dec. and just took my boards on Tues...and found out I passed today! :) When I studied I used Frye's 3000 Nursing Bullets to brush up on important nsg. facts! I also used Saunder's Q & A Review w/CD and the Kaplan tests on their CD. They told us at Kaplan we should do between 3000-7000 questions. Who does 7000 questions.....I don't know??!! I'm sure you'll do GREAT on the NCLEX! Study some everyday to keep the material fresh in your mind....but don't get burnt out! Best of luck!!!
  4. I just found out 30 min. ago that I PASSED!! The nursing recruiter from the hospital where I'll be working called and told me the good news!! I have been crazy with worry since yesterday! I have never been so relieved in my life. Thanks to everyone who posted with their kind thoughts and words of encouragement!! It really made me feel better when I was freaking out!! To everyone else who is still waiting....I am sure you did GREAT and passed also. Please let us know when you get your results!! -Katie, RN :)
  5. I took the NCLEX this morning and it shut off at 75! I took the Kaplan Review course...and answered close to 3,000 questions before I took it today and I still feel horrible. I left feeling like I didn't know any of the questions. I kept thinking what if I am getting the "easy questions" and I'm getting all of them wrong?! Has anyone taken the boards in KY.......has anyone been able to get the results back faster than 48 hrs?? Any suggestions or encouragement would greatly help!! Thanks. -Katie
