  1. That's a great science GPA. I would still take a year of general chemistry to have a strong foundation (you will need to know gas laws, etc. for anesthesia), but it's up to you about O Chem. I did take one semester of it and it's helpful for my medicinal chemistry class.
  2. How strong is your cumulative science GPA and overall GPA? If they are strong you probably won't need it, however, I think most people in my class took O Chem.
  3. I understand why you want to keep your child with you (my son is twelve, but if he was younger I wouldn't have been able to do the long distance thing, it's hard enough even though he's older). I think you can totally be successful in school! You have reliable child care and a good support system, and those are really the two biggest things. I'm in the same program as missnurse and I am usually able to go to bed at a reasonable time and have some quality time with the kiddo during the weekend. Good luck and keep me posted :)
  4. Hi CVICU14, I am a single mom in my first semester of CRNA school. My situation is a little different than yours... I had to move 2 hours away for school and I come home on the weekends. My son's father has stepped up and keeps him during the week, which is nice. How old is your child(ren) and do you have a support system? That's huge. If you have reliable child care until around 4-5 pm during the week you can study until that time and then study after your child(ren) goes to sleep. Also, I have activities on the weekend (my son plays sports), and I just bring my notes with me and study during games. I make it a point to get up early on the weekends and study before my son wakes up as well. I hope this helps and good luck!
  5. Missnurse-I can't PM yet and I can't find the page. My email is [email protected]. That will hopefully work! Thanks :)
  6. Thanks missnurse! I have no idea where I'm going to stay, hopefully close to MCV. I looked at a couple places when I was down there, but I'm not planning to move until the beginning of August. I'll probably go back down in a month or so and look at more apartments. Have you talked with other people about housing? I wish I could live with my friend, but she has a (tiny) one bedroom.
  7. Thank you all for your responses! My original plan was to go to the Northern VA campus if I was accepted, but there are no spots open there as of right now. So it looks like I will be in Richmond during the week and driving back to NOVA on the weekends. It's not an incredibly awesome situation, but it's doable. I actually just went down there to visit my friend who is an intern at MCV. It really wasn't that bad of a drive compared to the horrible traffic up here! My son is a little older (he's almost 12), so he understands that this is only temporary and it will be a great thing in the long run. Nurse Lay-you are right, we do what we must. Good luck with your program! Missnurse-I will see you in August!
  8. I was put on an alternate list for VCU and accepted to Georgetown's CRNA program back in December. Yesterday, I received a call from VCU and was accepted to the Richmond campus. This is great for me, but I am from nova. I am willing to move, BUT my son would have to remain in northern VA with his father. I like both programs, but Georgetown's cost is really scary! Any thoughts?
  9. I decided not to interview as I had already been accepted to my first choice, but my co-worker found out she got in a couple days ago. Best of luck to everyone!
  10. Congratulations! I got an email on Friday... I'm really excited to interview and it's going to be really hard to wait until January.
  11. Congratulations! That is so exciting :)
  12. They told my interview group they will not notify until at least the first week in December, so I wouldn't stalker call yet!
  13. Oh, and there is a short test-nothing too hard! Good luck with your interviews!
  14. Missnurse- Sorry have been working and haven't got on here in awhile. I actually live in Northern VA, about 1 1/2 hours away. BUT I don't think the traffic is too bad there, at least nothing compared to DC. I've heard the West End is nice. I also know that VCU has buses/shuttles that seem to help with parking, etc.
  15. I'm local. I'm a single mom and I share custody with my child's father, so I am kind of limited in where I can live. I also applied to Georgetown and Maryland, but I haven't heard anything from either school yet. VCU said they will notify in the beginning of December. Make sure you research the area where your hotel is... some parts of Richmond can be a little sketchy (just like any city, I guess).
