"Get out of here... go do some 'doctor' stuff..."
Just this weekend I walked into my patient's room and saw our ER medical director removing an unneeded second IV from a not-so-happy patient! He saw that I was extremely busy and didn't want to take me away from my other patients so he D/C'd the IV himself! He was also a very good sport when the patient started telling him how good looking he was! It's great to have all staff working together for the benefit of the patient!

Should I include my desire for continue education on my cover letter?
Thank you all for the feedback....it is ironic that the responses validate my question exactly! Basically, I have concluded that there is no yes or no answer to this question. I have just started sending out my resume & cover letter so I have not had the chance to determine if including the continuing education desire has hurt or helped. It is stated, "I am very eager to advance my nursing career with (insert name of medical system). I also aspire to earn a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree, which can promote your team’s continued growth and enhancement." Again, I did not want to sound like I wanted to work for the organization for my own personal gain, although it is a perk! This specific medical system is extremely large and, if hired by them, I plan on being a "lifer". I would easily be able to relocate to different areas within the same organization. Therefore, even though continuing my education would ultimately benefit me, I also have no desire to "job hop" after the fact. Thanks again for the feedback!!

#2- ABC's first. The fact that the nose hairs were singed indicates that the airway may be compromised. Airway first. Stab wound next because that is a circulation issue if the patient is hemorrhaging. The emphysema patient is stable and managing his chronic condition with proper breathing. There is a study guide floating around on the forum that is excellent. It includes many tips and mnemonics that are fun and help some of the toughest topics stick. Just remember... ABCs Maslows Nursing process (if there are both assessment and implement options in the answers-assess first; if all options are implementations- what makes sense, is relevant to the question asked, and is the safest?) Good luck!

Should I include my desire for continue education on my cover letter?
There seem to be so many "do's and do not's" when it comes to writing a resume and cover letter so I am wondering if anyone can help me with a straight answer? I am switching careers from a paralegal to a nurse and I just received my ADN 2 weeks ago. I am trying to sell myself to a Magnet hospital, which hires mainly BSN nurses. Because I already have a BS in Criminal Justice I am able to do a bridge program which allows me to "bridge" over from ADN straight to MSN (with a few BSN courses along the way). In order for me to get the point across to the Magnet hospitals that I am planning on continuing my education to MSN, I want to put it on my cover letter. By doing so I am hoping that they do not automatically write me off as not having enough education for their organization. Is this acceptable? It's tough trying to get this correct and really sell myself, especially with a career change and trying to get into hospitals that state "Bachelor's preferred" on their job postings. Any help or advice is appreciated!

Proper cleaning using alcohol wipes
Thank you all for your feedback!! I have seen many articles on the caps that are being used and I think it's a great idea, although I would personally still feel the need to scrub with alcohol. I will be singing Happy Birthday and using new wipes each time I need to clean a port! And I have tried using my school's online journals, but I am in a community college and our selection is not exactly large. (For the record, my instructor advised that she wipes the port, then she will lay the wipe on the patient's arm underneath the port.) Thanks again!! And if anyone happens to stumble upon any EBP sources I would love to review them!

Proper cleaning using alcohol wipes
I recently got into a discussion with my clinical instructor regarding the best practice for cleaning with an alcohol wipe and she told me to research evidence based practice and get my answer. I have searched for 2 days for scholarly, valid, updated sources and still cannwipesI a clear answer to my question! Here is the question and any feedback, links, or advice is greatly appreciated:When using an alcohol prep pad to clean a port, injection site, etc, are you able to reuse the same wipe? Example-if wiping port to attach flush, then wiping port to attach med?I have been told that as long as the pad is still wet then it is still able to rid bacteria and can be reused. But I was also told that I must get a new alcohol wipe for every cleaning, no matter if it's still wet. I just want to make sure that I am being safe and that I have valid reasoning for doing what I am doing!
