I think being a big male nurse has its benefits. Lol. Somehow ppl like to pick on ppl that are weaker and smaller than they are. It's called bullying.

Doctors from other countries some come from countries where a nurse is a step higher than janitors and are very task oriented and their education program if any puts them in that position. Not all nurses are trained the same. In the US, I guess guys like to hang with guys and have more guy things to talk about, also critical care docs like ER docs are generally more open and kinder to all nurses from my experience bc we work so closely together. But the floors is a whole other kind of doc, they get pulled out of their sleep and they don't care who it is and some of them are rude regardless of gender.

If a doc is disrespecting a male nurse he or she is probably disrespecting all nurses regardless of gender. If you feel disrespected and you think it regards knowledge than go out there and get informed so the next time this doc shows up you give that doc he facts and if doc still disrespect you than you know it's just his or hers own personal issues and ignore it or if you like report the person. Stand up for yourself.

Started a shift I was supposed to be with another female RN in triage but was pulled to help with a trauma coming in. When I was done I went to triage to help out and was told " you are supposed to be here" I said " I was pulled to trauma help". She then started to give me a bunch of attitude and crap about how she had to medicate and do a bunch of stuff by herself. So I had enough and said I guess u like working by yourself. Left to talk with my charge. If course charge, but told me that I was where I was supposed to be that was trauma and to ignore her and pull me to another section. But to top it off that RN sees me in the hallway and said " you're a baby!". Really ****** me off bc that's unprofessional and attack on my character. I'm 35 at the time x military and heald a lot of different jobs before nursing so I'm not your f ing baby. I did the right thing and not answer back bc in a female dominated field do you think if a male pull that bs he would not be charged for bullying or harassment? That's the double standard. Even if I reported her most ppl would blow it off and she would deny it anyways.

Any pt in the ER for more than 12 hrs no matter what it is for shows me that there is a disfunctional unit in the hospital. Either the ER or psych unit bc any where else the p would have been out of the unit by transfer or on the floor

I'm a ER guy. I think when you assume you make an ass out of yourself. You think when I get someone critical from the field I get every single info about them. But I still have to work with pretty much nothing. Get over it. Find the most important stuff stabilize the person first. And don't give ppl hard time bc they don't know if the pt has hairs on her toes or not. If your on a team you pick up the game you don't blame your teammates, management will do that for you. Help your fellow nurse not pick on them.

Badge, s scope, small note pad, 3 pens, tape paper and regular strung onto kelly forceps and pinched onto side of my scrubs like a holster for my shears. And my iPhone for quick med reference and calculations. Of course alcohol wipes, 2 sets of IV start kits 18g, 20g.

Congrats! If you're new to nursing I suggest taking the job bc there aren't that many out there. They will talk about benefits and pay and maybe even some nurse educational stuff. HR usually sets up the start date and orientation process for you. Pretty straight forward. Yes and I agree with previous RN Ashley. You are in the Big leagues now. You can't be shadowing LVN, CNA or techs bc they will not be doing the care that you need to do. Your preceptor should be showing you enough to survive and it's up to you to further your knowledge in the future... Good luck.
