  1. Hi, They will work with you to see how you can be competitive. I have 3.69 from LVN. 86.7 TEAS V. My prereq gpa was 3.54. My science gpa was 3.80? (I forgot) lol Your working experience will vary, but that won't be a major criteria to be rejected. I have worked as a CNA for home health and managed care as outpt case manager LVN. Good luck.
  2. Hi, My Cohort didn't have to take the competency exam. We took pharm and nutrition exams though. For pharm, know all major categories of drugs plus the usual meds you give and have seen on NCLEX. Nutr, if you took a class in Pasadena City College, then it is transferable. Know how to properly assess a pt, med math, and be able to interpret vital signs. I don't know what other skills you need to know. Sorry. Good Luck! You should ask the program manager about Cohort 9's competency exam criteria; the competency exam was implemented in that cohort.
  3. You got this! See you next year!
  4. Hi Not a Christian, no problem! lol You will be assimilated, resistance is futile. As I mentioned in the previous post, the program is now five semesters long and cost has increased by a few thousand. APU just changed the length and curriculum effective Sept, 2016. My cohort will be graduating in the old six semesters curriculum since I started on May, 2016. Program is going good. Classes are held only at the Monrovia campus. Clinicals are held within 15 miles of the school. LVN to BSN program get the closer sites such as White Memorial and CVHP campuses in Covina. Just keep in touch with the admit counselors on the prereqs and you'll get in before you know it. Receiving an invite for an interview means you're already in the door, just impress them with your nursing experience. Some of my classmates do work, but like all programs, if work cuts in too much of your study time then you will see the grades and the quality of your training drop. APU is making applicants go through pharmacology, nutrition, and skills testing now. If you don't pass then you must remediate by taking an APU-approved course. Know your meds and assessments. The new curriculum is four days per week. Good Luck!
  5. Good Luck. Hope to see you there in September. I am the only Asian guy with a pompadour, can't miss me. LOL
  6. Hi just saw your post. https://allnurses.com/lpn-rn-nursing/apu-lvn-to-953782-page2.html Please read. I didn't go to West Coast. I have a classmate who went and left, and then apply to APU LVN to BSN. Good luck. If your counselor is Mike Hontz, then you will be set for APU. He'll let you know everything you need to get in.
  7. Hey everyone. Sry I missed your msgs earlier. I don't know how to get alerted for responses in this forum. Anyways, I got the interview mid February and got a decision early March. I was accepted for the May 2016 cohort. This LVN to BSN program is still brand new since its opening back in 2013. I am in cohort 8 and there are still changes to be made. It's increasing in tuition from cohort 9 and later. It will be 5 continuous semesters instead of 6 semester for mine. This is not a working program. So far in the first semester, things are going great and we do skills reviews to prepare us to clinicals in the second semester. There are a lot of essays and time-consuming assignments that will literally eat away whatever free time you have. lol BSN according to APU is a scholarly degree in the nursing profession; therefore, on top of skill sets taught, every nursing student will be required to perform like a Four year degree scholar aka hella term papers. (I'm from SF) lol DO NOT go to WEST COAST UNIVERSITY. That institution is not recognized by other colleges and they have a scandal going on. They are also facing accreditation issues as they are being reviewed annually. Normally, once a college is accreditated by BRN, the next review timeline is FIVE years, not annually. BE WARNED!!!!!! 120k+ for a nursing program is not worth it. Don't listen to others who says you'll pay it off once you get a six figure nurse job. This is ********! Not all nurse jobs get to enjoy the lofty salary. Unless you already know someone on the floor who can get you that six figure position, then good for you.
  8. Hi valpal, I know I stumbled pretty late into this forum, but I also landed an interview recently for the May 2016 cohort and was wondering if you have any tips on how to prepare for this. I am an LVN in managed care, which means I have no floor experience after I graduated from LVN school. Managed care field in SF Bay Area is expanding and are hiring new grads. Anyways, appreciate if you can give some insider tips. Thanks : )
  9. Hi, I am applying to the May 2016 cohort LVN - BSN and I just got called for an interview that is scheduled for next Wednesday. Was wondering how you can prepare for this? Side note: I am not a Christian. I am very nervous right now and of all the schools I have applied, Azusa was the first to respond. My admission rep was extremely helpful throughout the process.
  10. I wasn't selected for the third time.
