  1. The (unofficial) word I have heard is that the Med-Surg intro book is only "occasionaly referrenced" in the first semester. I might reccomend getting a wheeled case for classes. I have one and it is invaluble.
  2. I'm not a nurse yet, but I've been working in an emergency room for a while, and I've learned that even in dangerous situations sometimes you have to be willing to put yourself aside no matter how much your sense of self-preservation screams for you not to. An example: Late last year, a bomb threat was called into the hospital. It was made to sound sincere and serious. I was working in the ER that day, and it was left to us to help protect the patients and secure the area in case a disaster did happen. It ment going through and checking rooms, securing doors, and helping get people to safe areas. The whole time I kept thinking "What am I going to do if it goes off?" "What if I end up in the bast radius?" I eventually came to realize I would be thinking the same thing if I were a patient. I would want someone to protect me, and keep me safe so that is what I tired to focus on. In the end, it turned out to not be a actual bomb, but the experiance was scary, but at the same time kind of helped reinforce why I do my job.
  3. I talked with a co-worker of mine at the hospital I work for who is in Semester 3 of the nursing program at GPC, and he was saying that the electronic book(s) set was a much better idea than trying to carry the 2 or 3 reference books it replaces. Also, he was of the opinion that the lab coat was over rated since in his words "you'll never use it." Just some feedback and ideas I got from someone who knows better. Anyone going to the Boot Camp next week?
  4. Hello everyone, I was at the nursing orientation today. Just joined the site for this thread specificly. That was a good overview of the program. Does anyone have a website where we are supposed to order the uniforms through? I moved the other week and can't find anything from when I got the acceptance letter. Was going to see what I can get rolling myself, since my FAFSA seems to be taking forever to clear, much less be processed. Also, anyone find that video about the SimMan dummies to be creepy?
