I was hired as a staff nurse, not through an agency... BUT, I just called HR and she said to ignore the 32 that it's how I'd accrue PTO. If I have worked over 40 hours, that is the rate they would pay me per hour.. Confusing lol, but thanks for your response!

Hello All!.. so, I recently abandoned the Med-Surg/Floor Nursing ship (All I have to say is that I have MUCH respect for Med-Surg nurses the end!). I have recently been offered a position as a Home Health RN in an assisted living facility (so no driving all over, as my clients are all housed in the same building(s)). I am having a little trouble understanding how their compensation system works however. There are TWO pay rates on my offer letter; the first is a $32 hourly rate and the second is a $38 pay per point rate. From what I have gathered so far, things like admissions are worth 2 points, basic visits 1 point, restart of care 1.5 points etc. My question is am I getting paid hourly or per point?... what determines what? I am totally clueless how this works; first time homehealther here! please help me understand.. I'm probably going to call HR and have them break it down for me, but I thought to first seek understanding from the oh so wise one's on Allnurses :). Also, the name of the facility is Brookdale Senior Living, any insight on the company would be welcomed as well Thanks in advance!

Ok, so I'm way off topic and borderline stalking right now LOL (can't message yet). but I have a question for "TheCommuter"... I was reading other posts about Healthsouth, and found out you currently work there, well I have just been offered a position there today ( a new grad) going for 22.50.. Do you think this pay is reasonable and would it be arrogant to try to negotiate for more? ... If its ok to "haggle", any suggestions on how should I go about it?..... I would SUPER appreciate a response when you can :) THANKS!!

It truly is frustrating.. I have been applying like crazy, sadly, to avail.. Just gotta hang in there. We will get one soon enough.. Good advice by the way.. I called a few places yesterday, and one of the recruiters took my name down and said she'd "screen" my resume and possibly forward it to the hiring manager... Fingers crossed!

Thank you guys!! And I wish you LOTS OF LUCK!!.. Just remain calm, don't dwell too much... On some questions, I couldn't really narrow it down, and ended up guessing.... Just remember, you don't need to get all the questions right!! ..know how to delegate, cohort, and normal values ( they save you in the exhibit questions) . :)... I'm sure you will do well, let us know how it goes!

Woweezowee! .. I just finished my test.. Took me about 2hrs.. It was...weird.. I did 75 questions. All the topics were familiar, but the options to select from were the killers... Excellent elimination skills REQUIRED! I got a bunch of SATA(was unsure about MOST of them lol) Lost count.. I got about 5 exhibit questions, I got zero calculations, I got 1 picture.. There were a few infection control (cohorting!!) and prioritizing, as well as some patient teaching.I did the PVT like immediately after leaving the test center at a Starbucks.. I was shaking like a jelly fish betting that I prolly failed.. I got the "good popup" (our records indicate you have scheduled... Please contact the BON) but now I know how everyone feels like its not true until they see the unofficial results!Overall, I think that I definitely over studied!... The test was pretty basic (not easy, but basic). I used Kaplan ( overall Qbank 63%, QT5,6,&7 66 each). I feel that Kaplan definitely helped, though it's a bit harder. That study guide that's been circulating on here??? MUST HAVE... Like seriously, I had one question that came directly from one of the pages, it's full of info that can help you answer questions correctly!I also used...*Saunders ( but not a lot).. Did the diagnostic and got an 81*Judith miller DVD's for content (I liked it a lot! Like having a private tutor that you can pause )* lippincott Q&A book ( nice questions that cover EVERYTHING)* Kaplan strategy book ( comparable to the website with obviously less questions)* and OFCOURSE that study guide!!! :)I just hope I can rely on the PVT!!! Eeeeeeeeek!! (runs crazily around the living room -_-)

Welp, from what I have read on here so far, the general advice is not to rely too heavily on the prediction scores. Kaplan does suggest to try for the 60's on your Qbank practices, QT6 & 7, and I think to aim for 65 in QT 1-5. I am also doing Kaplan and I test on Thursday 26th (:barf01:), I just finished QT 7 (I got a 66 on QT 5, 6, & 7... my overall average for the QBank 63, and recently I have been scoring in the 70's with the Qbank with only 150 Q's to go); I like my scores because they show consistency, which I think should be the goal... I think consistency shows you are able to do well with a wide variety of content and types of questions. overall advice: I would aim for 60's and above keeping in mind that Kaplan is supposedly harder than the actual NCLEX (will find out if that is true soon enough ).
