  1. Has anyone applied for the Winter 2013 intake for the Psych Nursing Program at Douglas? I applied to both the diploma and the degree program though I already have most of the first year of the degree program finished through academic foundations in nursing. Anybody else out there waiting to hear?
  2. Sprott-Shaw is a DONT forsure. A close family friend works for a private nursing agency and hires LPNs and will NOT take any LPNs from Sprott-Shaw. She says that they do not train students properly and the practicum just isn't long enough for students to gain the knowledge needed. One of the reasons being they take international students that barely speak any english and integrate them with students fluent in english which then causes the whole class to get held back by the international students. I know they are changing their program and are making the practicum longer but they are also raising the tuition $10,000 as well. Don't waste your money ($40,000...eeek:no:) to study somewhere what has black-balled their own name in the nursing community as you will not be able to find employment in the field. Public colleges are worth the wait... after all the whole point of bettering your education is for better employment opportunities, right?
  3. For anyone considering going to a private college for nursing studies I would suggest that you thoroughly do your research before you commit to anything. Don't let the excitement and the rush to start a program blind you into only seeing the good about private colleges. I was lucky enough to do some good research and I am very glad that I did. All of the comments said the same thing about all of the private college - too expensive, lack of teaching, and difficulty finding employment in the field of study afterwards. Public colleges are worth the wait, are less expensive, and generally well known by all employers. Please, please, please do your research well before going to any private colleges.
