Years ago, a supervisor gave me a cheat sheet for hospice nurses that was practical and humorous. Example one-liners: 1. Call the pharmacy before having MD fax rx to make sure pharmacy has med available 2. Leave pad and pen at bedside for after-hour calls at 2:00 a.m., etc. If anyone has this list, I would be verey interested in receiving another copy. Thanks.

I actually want to go to work with Atlanta Nurse because I'm recognizing a similar trend in our area and with neighboring hospices with long hours, pt overload, night and weekend call. We live and breathe our pts, always short-handed because most nurses will not coninue working under these conditions. I've worked hospice 10+ years and have left twice over the years because of burnout but always come back because i love hospice. Yes, you have to take care of yourself but is your company taking care of you, also?

I have worked for 4 different hospices; all required to go to all deaths. Yes, it's tiring especially early morning hours, but the family will remember us and what we did. Only once have I not gone; the LTCF called after the funeral home picked up the pt and family did not come at all.
