  1. Thanks so much! That is really helpful info. I appreciate it!
  2. Thanks so much for your honesty! I figured it was tough (one of my friends had a similar experience with her hospital in New York- the hiring process length, etc). Our move is quite a ways out, and I wouldn't be leaving my current job unless I had something locked down out there. But it can't hurt to start thinking ahead about the timing of things. Thanks again.
  3. Hi there! I was wondering if anyone has any experience working at Children's Mercy in Kansas City. The Kansas and Missouri state threads are pretty dead, so I thought I would try my luck here! I am specifically interested in Children's Mercy South (Overland Park) or their PICU. My family is thinking of relocating, so I'm trying to do some research now. I have my BSN (second degree from an ABSN program) and would have 2 years of critical care peds experience from a Level I trauma center. Thank you so much!
  4. I just wanted to say congrats to everyone accepted! And if you were second-rounded - do not worry. I think everybody from the second round of the Fall 2012 cohort made it in in the end! Don't get discouraged!! :)
  5. I want to join the Facebook group but I think the invite is for the wrong cohort ha!
  6. Congrats jonron!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I'm so excited and freaking out!!
  8. I'm in!!!!!!!!!! Check your portal!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Hi everybody! I attended Duke Days today and just wanted to let y'all know how it went for me. :) Overall, I had a very good day. I was super impressed with the nursing school and its facilities, and everybody was so nice. I went on the tours before lunch and interviewed after lunch. Definitely try to eat a big breakfast - I don't think I ate enough in the morning and was kind of passing out by lunch ha. Waiting so long to interview was a little exhausting, but the good thing was that my nerves had pretty much worn off by then. Seriously, do not stress and just try to enjoy the day - it was super interesting. I know y'all are going to rock it! :)
  10. I just wanted to say GOOD LUCK to everyone attending Duke Days tomorrow! Y'all are going to do great! Don't stress and I hope you have a fun day. I am cracking up over the tissues. I always have tons of tissues in my purse, so everyone going on Monday is covered on the tissue front, ha ha. Thinking good thoughts for everyone!!!! :)
  11. Tsmith - I know it can be hard to get loans for this program if you still have loans from undergrad to pay off. Also (and this stinks), but Duke is not known for giving much financial aid. I know multiple people on the Duke ABSN Fall 2012 thread were not happy with the financial aid packages they received... Just fyi, so it's probably good to start researching loans early. Yeah, the thing that kills you in the summer in NC is the humidity! So gross. I think if you're moving to Durham from OOS, you should bring a reliable car with you. I personally wouldn't ride a bike or scooter around Durham for safety reasons... some parts of Durham are majorly sketch. And make sure to read reviews of any apartments you're interested in online (again, the safety issue). I can't believe interviews start on Friday! So exciting! I hope everybody had a great 4th! :)
  12. Wanderlust - I agree with you. I think the interview is really just a "is this person normal" check ha. After all, there is only 1 one-on-one interview. Is anybody taking pre-reqs this summer? And what is everyone planning on wearing to their interview? It is so hot and humid in NC right now - so gross!
  13. Yeah, I have a friend who interviewed in January and I do remember her saying that the one-on-one interview only lasted about 15 minutes. I think she had a bunch of people in her group, but there were multiple interviewers. She also got the impression that decisions about acceptances had already been made, and that the interview was not weighted heavily/did not count for a ton. She really enjoyed the day and told me it wasn't stressful. So hopefully she's right ha ha. :)
  14. Hi everyone! I also chose July 16th. I'm so excited!!!! Ryan - the CND is the Duke Center for Nursing Discovery. So I believe we will be touring the School of Nursing and its facilities (the simulation lab, etc.). And I think the faculty interview is the one-on-one interview, so we do have both a one-on-one interview AND a separate group interview. Fun times! I can't wait to meet everybody! :)
