  1. Hello all. I'm an ED nurse since 5 years and feel I need to do something different. A few weeks back I was able to get a sneak peak into the mom and baby unit in our hospital with connected L+D ( unfortunately only for 1 night shift). It was so interesting and a wonderful experience. Now I'm strongly considering making a change in my career. But everywhere I look for open positions they requiere 2-3 years of experience. Our hospital cooperation offers a 3 day maternity nursing and new born care didactic course which I was thinking about taking. I would appreciate any input on that matter. Thank you so much
  2. I am so frustrated right now and need to vent a little. I graduated from nursing school 2005 and spent most of my career in the ER. The first 2 years I worked on a med surg floor but I could not stand to see the same faces, the same pt 5 days in a row. So I ended up in the ED and initally really loved it. A little over a year ago we moved and I had to find a new job and there was no question for me where I wanna work, ER of course. Now after about 1 year I am so frustrated. In the beginning I thought it was because everything was new but it has not gotten any better. By now I tread going to work. If I know I have to work that night my mood is so bad all day. My husband can not understand my frustration, and honestly I can not understand it myself. I always loved my job but right now I would rather go work in starbucks.
  3. Frequent flyers with abdominal pain and drunks. The belly pain guys take forever with all the tests possible and the drunks can take away all your attention from your other patients, specially when they sober up a little and try to get out of bed constantly
  4. I also work 7p-7a since a little over a year now. I can not get the hang of the sleeping thing thou. I come home in the morning, exhausted and tired, fall right to sleep and by noon i'm up to the bathroom or such for the 2nd or 3rd time already (and yes, i don't drink coffe after 2 or even anything for that matter). I tried sleeping aids but they just make me feel like i'm having a hang over and don't make me sleep any longer. Looking forward to change my shift mid july to 1p-1a so i get to go to bed when it is still night. Hope this will work better for me
  5. Hello All. I got licensed a little over 1 year ago as an RN after moving from Germany. There I was working in the ED for almost 4 years and I loved it. So the decision was easy to stick with it. I got a job at a level 1 ER. Documentation was very hard for me as in comparison to Germany you have to document every single eye blink. I had to learn to reorganize myself again and felt like I had never worked in that job before. It was very hard on me because I'm always trying to be perfect and it was just not possible. It felt so weird coming from a place where you were familiar with your job, where people asked you questions because you were the one who knew. Now I feel stupid about constantly asking people and even thou I'm getting out on time now and emails from my boss about things I missed documenting are getting less and less it doesn't feel right. Back home I loved going to work, no matter what time a day no matter what day of the week. Here and now I'm looking around for alternatives. Trying to figure out what career path might suit me. Asking myself if I made the right decision by coming here. Somewhere back then and now the love for the job got lost.
  6. I had similar issues. In my case the school send the filled out paperform from CGFNS and a translated copy of my transcript. But CGFNS was actually looking for a course list with the amount of hours tought and not actually the transcript. Hope that helps
