  1. I agree. You have relevant Nursing Informatics (NI) experience and, obviously, do not need an MSN to work in NI. My story is slightly opposite yours! I want 100% of my practice to be in NI and decided to get my MSN after 26 years of RN practice. This year, I completed my MSN-Nursing Informatics Specialty track; I am an Informatics Nurse Specialist (INS) through formal training. I do not have relevant NI experience, so I am applying to Leadership jobs not in NI, and volunteering in any NI work going on in my organization in order to gain the precious NI experience you have! It's great you are doing your research! Best wishes as you decide your path!
  2. Congratulations! I graduated, this year, with my MSN- NI Specialty Track. I am using the Mometrix Test Prep guide because I am not able to afford an NI Boot Camp (about $300). I do plan to purchase the ANCC test questions, and I use my 2015 NI Scope and Standards book even in my daily practice as a Case Manager. Have you heard of the certification test being updated in 2016 or 2017? I want to use the most up-to-date study materials if I'm ready to test in 2016 or 2017.
  3. Hi Eric. I am not making any deadline for your paper but, I would like to respond. I am a 20yr RN completing my BSN and wanting to begin my final area of practice in NI. In all my years of nursing I've never specialized because no area moved me to stay like the area of NI. It is very daunting on how to begin a NI career, because the level of TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED is varied; some advice I've been given is become a superuser, get your MSN in NI, several NI RN's have reported getting "lucky" to get on the job training. I was recently denied an advertised position with my hospital as an Epic Analyst-no experience required. I will keep trying and formally educating myself to get into this growing area of professional practice. I am told the gold standard is the nursing knowledge RN's possess about what realistic, quality patient care is.
