Funny you should ask... According to the bbc health website, nursing is considered a "right-brain" career. Apparently, our lack of linear thinking can help us consider the gray areas, assess chaotic situations better, judge body language more perceptively, etc... I am also going into nursing with art as my background. I'll take all the help and encouragement I can get! Now if it could just help get me through A&P I and II final exams this Thursday I'd be set! p.s.- Your portfolio is fantastic!

Just something to think about... Duke Hospital System offers complete tuition reimbersment with a three year contract... around $7000 at the end of each year of work, post graduation. It makes Watts a possibility for me! I'll keep in touch... wish me luck!

Anyone a current or alum? I just wanted to know some of the specifics about uniforms and tools-- I know it is very regulated and was hoping to get a jump start! Books, too... So glad to be in, but also nervous! Wow! I would really appreciate some words of wisdom from someone in the trenches. Anyone else attending a hospital based, clinical intensive program? What should I expect, how is it different from other types of programs, anything I should be doing for the next few months before clinicals begin? A trip to Europe, as many mani/pedi's as possible, time with my husband, and sleep while I can get it have already been suggested! :rotfl:

I was so in your shoes, just last year! I have been "math-phobic" my entire life. I thought that I couldn't become a nurse because I wasn't math efficient enough to get through the schooling, much less the job! Instead, I spent last summer teaching myself math from the ground up. As it turns out, I am NOT terrible at math- I just didn't have the foundations that I needed to succeed. I borrowed every math book I could find at the local library (general mathskills to SAT workbooks) and spent hours everyday practicing. I got 100% total in my first Algebra course. Yahoo! My next math class will be Trig and Calc... I can't believe it! If you are struggling because of other issues, learning disabilities, etc., you may want to check out what type of help is available at your local community college. There are so many forms of help available! Anyway, hope this gives you inspiration! Good luck! Carrie
